  A wonderful stay at Secrets Papagayo!

  We had such a great time at Secrets Papagayo Costa Rica. Our room was very clean, comfortable, and everything was well taken care of. The staff was always friendly and helpful, and we really enjoyed the food and the overall atmosphere. One of the highlights of our stay was watching the sunset over the ocean. The views were absolutely beautiful and made for some unforgettable moments. We also enjoyed meeting some friendly local people while spending time at the beach. Since our room was located on a hill, we really appreciated the resort transportation. It made getting around the property much easier and more convenient. We also booked several experiences with NextTripCR, including jet skis, a rainforest wildlife tour, and the Buena Vista Mega Combo with ziplining. Everything was very well organized, and our guide was professional, friendly, and attentive throughout the day. Overall, it was an amazing Costa Rica getaway. We would definitely recommend Secrets Papagayo

  Costa Rica Family Trip '26

  Overall, a nice setting overlooking the coast and great service. Based on where it is located on the coast, the resort is split into two areas with restaurants, pools and rooms. The main area has the large pool, majority of restaurants nearby and is where the activities happen during the day. The rooms were clean and quiet but didn't stay stocked with snacks/drinks as advertised unless you called the service desk. Even after calling, they may or may not actually show up with the requested items. All of the restaurants were great with fantastic service. The Italian place requires long pants for males inside the restaurant or you can sit outside. The main area feels a little cramped and noisy once a lot of folks are out around the pool and common areas. In the afternoon, the main pool got a little dirty which I know several guests complained about to management. The other side of the resort has the gym, spa, quieter pool and restaurant. You can walk down the beach to get between the areas. All of the food was great, and Preferred Members have their own breakfast area near the pool. The property itself can use some updates, and I was surprised to see trash on the ground. Most of the rooms are located on the hillside which requires walking up and down significant inclines. This may be a problem for folks with mobility issues or if not wearing sturdy footwear. Because the property is split and rooms are away from the main areas, there are footpaths as well as shuttles that can be requested. The event staff is great, especially Anderson and the crew that run the activities. They could use some structuring of the activities by using a PA system to keep guests update on their events as well as announce/explain what the events were to keep guests interested in participating and engaged. I was surprised that a lot of the staff couldn't answer what we thought were fairly basic questions about the property, member events, etc. The entertainment was sub-par and low production quality. The dancers were certainly talented, but it didn't seem organized and there was no MC or host that provided more structure. They could use help from other resorts that know how to put on professional productions. The beach area was nice and quiet. There are outside activity vendors that are allowed to sit between the main resort area and the beach access that non-stop harass guests to purchase their activities/services. Apparently, management allows them to sit there despite the nuisance to guests. We'd recommend the trip to Buena Vista del Rincon where you can zipline, ride horses, do a cultural plantation tour, eat lunch and sit in natural hot springs. The fishing charter was also great, caught a Mahi and two Bonito. For an additional $100, the resort will prepare your catch and serve a choice of sides and pair with a bottle of wine.
