Man all I have to say is that Jamaican people have such kind hearts and souls. They are so awesome to be around and so joyful. 10/10

    Overall great experience

Overall, we would rate this resort relatively high - here are a few takeaways. Resort/Rooms: Clean - (the staff was amazing - if they were busy, they were always curteous and ensured we had clean linens or offered to come back, we also received turndown service), 97% have ocean views, somewhat dated resort and the elevators in our building were 50/50; not a big deal as we just walked a little further to get the elevator in the lobby; our room was on the 5th floor so no complaints with our view. Pools: There were two pools at Secrets St. James; one in which had a swim-up pool bar and another with an infinity pool and a little quieter. There is not a lot of shade at the resort (as reported by others), but we didn't have any issues securing chairs under an umbrella. The staff works hard to bring drinks poolside so no issues with either going to the swim-up bar or waiting for staff. Tipping goes a long way and we were always sure to have small bills on us. Beach: Amazing! We even had a waiter serve us from the ocean - Marvin was really attentive. There is not a lot of seaweed so it made the water very inviting. There are catamarans, kayaks and paddle boards all available to use. If you want to book a glass bottom boat, that's available at the Captain's office ($35/person for 35 minute); we did not book this but nice it was offered. Barefoot Grill: Jerk chicken is a must! I think we ate that for lunch 4 of the 8 days we stayed. They also offered woodfired pizza, hot dogs, juicy patty (a Jamaican hot pocket) and french fries. If you didn't want to walk down to the grill, there was a cart that operated from 12:30-2:00 up and down the path offering the jerk chicken. In addition to the chicken cart, there was also someone who offered fresh coconuts (with or without rum). Lobby Bars: Okay....but not what you expect when you hear 'lobby bar'. It was very small but the servers were great - Karen has been there for 14 years and was fun to chat with. Piano Bar: Our favorite "happy hour" spot. It offered both indoor and outdoor seating, opened at 5:30 pm and offered entertainment throughout the evening. It's close to the a la carte restaurants and ocean facing. Restaurants: All were amazing! While our stay was at Secrets St. James, our UVC Rep (Zoya) was able to offer us a rooftop experience at nearby Breathless. The meals at Breathless was one of our favorites, from the steak to salmon to chicken with sundried tomatoes, the experience was really good! Samantha was our waitress and made the meal/experience even better (despite some liquid sunshine (a.k.a. rain drops)! UVC: We are Choices members (basic level) which means our membership did not allow the Preferred areas at this particular resort (remember, I stated earlier, 97% of the rooms are ocean view). I don't think we missed too much - outside of the freedom to come and go to the Breathless rooftop restaurant; however, Zoya did assist in ensuring we were able to experience this. Excursions: We did opt to travel to the Nine Miles Bob Marley tour and highly recommend! We had a private transfer to/from the airport and reached out to him to drive us to Nine Miles. It’s almost a 2 ½ hour drive and the last 45 minutes are up winding narrow hills of Jamaica. The experience was really fun – and one we’re glad we did. We used Philip Tours philipjarrett123@gmail.com if anyone is interested. They are half the price of booking through a bus tour and much more flexible in times. We also opted to stop at a beachside grill on the way back (Father Bull) for a drink and appetizer.

    Disappointing

This place is a joke! All Inclusive…. Bars close at 6 You can’t get a decent dinner time unless you eat at 6 which is the best time to be on the beach or 9:30 when the rush you out for 10 o’clock closing. Pool bar closed at 5 one day 4:15 one day and 4:30 one day. No reason given for this other then the bartenders were allowed to do what they wanted at their discretion. Food was okay, very small portions and luke warm at best. 24 hour room service was the worst I’ve ever experienced with the wrong food being delivered not to mention this too was cold!!! Never restocked my mini fridge once so I had to stop at the lobby bar and grab 2 shower beers everyday. Bathrooms are outdated and in need of a good cleaning and caulking. Coffee bar was legit, very friendly and accommodating and pastries were fresh and tasty. Front desk was absolutely no help in solving any issues…. They knew you were stuck there pretty much and couldn’t simply book another hotel next door or down the street. Total money grab!!! Beach was beautiful with some of the greatest sunsets you’ll ever see. To bad it’s ruined by the lackluster resort you had to return to. Not a lot of friendly faces working there to lend a hand in anything you needed. Way better choices for the money!!! With a little TLC and some industry/attitude/and accommodating classes for the entire staff, this place could be a real gem. Sad they let it get to this point.

    Great Experience

Spacious and clean room. Hot tub did not work for bubbles, but overall very nice room. Privileged suite mini bar stocked with local beer and sodas. Received one small bottle of Cinnamon Whiskey upon arrival. I didn't like how all bars and restaurants were so far away from the privileged suites. We did a lot of walking for a hot tub that didn't work.

    Beautiful sunsets

We enjoyed our stay, property was beautiful but not much shade to be found. We had no problem getting loungers at one of the beaches around 9am but we had to leave by 2pm as no more shade to be found.. we had beach service or the illusion of beach service... the waiter came around 2 times between 9 and 2 ... we didn't even try for pool loungers as they were all covered with towels.. not many people just towels... people save loungers but hardly use them... food was ok... didn't like that no dinner buffet was available for a quick dinner.. had to wait to be served... which is ok but not every night.. went to French restaurant and by the time we got fed we had lost our appetite and only had a couple bites.. it was 9pm by the time we had a table... disappointing... the seafood restaurant was our favorite.. service was great and getting a table was faster ... we found all the staff on resort very friendly and nice... entertainment... no where to sit and watch it as not enough seating available so can't really comment on that... disappointing... our room... loved the location.. garden view.. we were located behind beach grill... we left are patio door unlocked and used it as our enter n exit point all week... occasionally we had to use the door as the maid or turn down service would lock patio... room was very nice but detailed cleaning could be better... like baseboards ... corners... no big deal for us but it will only get worse... like I tell my staff .. if you always wipe it .. you won't have to scrub it.. on our last day we were walking all the beaches... got pretty grossed out when by the boats for water sports.... counted 12 dirty diapers floating in the water and washing up on beach... gross.... people swimming in that water made me gag.... bars... not enough easy access bars... the beach grill would be a great spot to put one.... cappuccino.. I drink cappuccino all day and night... unfortunately the only place to get one is the Cafe.. cant get at any restaurant or bar.... disappointing... would we return? Yes if the price was good!
