  Beautiful Resort, But Service Needs Improvement

  The hotel is beautiful and the facilities are great, but unfortunately, our honeymoon experience did not live up to our expectations. We paid for a luxury room and expected a level of service to match, but we received very little help from Guest Services when we had an issue and there was no special welcome or acknowledgment for our honeymoon. We also felt a noticeable difference in the way Dominican and foreign guests were treated, which was very disappointing. This was my second stay at the hotel, so I honestly expected much more. I hope they take this feedback seriously and improve their service and guest experience.

  Inflexible policies and customer service

  Do not book. They have very inflexible policies that allow for zero changes when unexpected events arise. Would not even allow me to transfer a prepaid stay to another name so that our money wouldn’t be wasted when a travel companion was hospitalized. Poor customer service that sounds like AI robot instead of a human

  Bad experience overall

  ⭐ 1/5 — Extremely disappointing, stressful and far from a relaxing vacation I am currently staying at the Senator Puerto Plata Spa Resort with my son, and unfortunately, I feel compelled to share our experience while we are still here. We came here expecting to relax, disconnect, enjoy the beach and pool, and spend quality time together. Instead, I have felt overwhelmed, stressed, uncomfortable and, at this point, I honestly just want to go home. The biggest issue has been the extreme overcrowding, particularly during the weekend. Very large numbers of local guests are being accommodated at the resort, and the facilities simply do not appear to be able to handle the number of people comfortably. The buffet, pool areas and common spaces become extremely crowded, noisy and chaotic. There are long waits, people everywhere, and very little sense of being able to relax. I want to be clear that my complaint is not about someone's nationality. My concern is about the specific behavior we personally experienced and the way the resort handles these situations. Unfortunately, I personally experienced several incidents that I perceived as disrespectful, intimidating and discriminatory toward us as foreign guests. This happened more than once. I came here as a paying guest expecting to be treated with basic respect, not to feel unwelcome because I am a tourist. The noise has also been unacceptable. On several mornings, we were repeatedly woken up by people shouting loudly in the hallways and playing very loud music through portable speakers in the common areas. This completely disrupted our sleep. Our room has also been extremely disappointing. The bathtub in our room is very old and deteriorated. It is visibly coming apart, has rust, and does not drain properly, causing water to accumulate in the tub. What makes this even more frustrating is that the hotel staff are already aware of this problem. We are staying in Building 10, and we have been told that other guests in the same building are experiencing the same issue. When I reported the problem with our bathtub, the response I received was extremely rude and dismissive. I did not feel that my complaint was taken seriously at all. It was particularly frustrating to realize that this is apparently not an isolated problem and yet nothing seems to have been done to properly address it. For a resort of this category, the condition and maintenance of the bathroom are unacceptable. Another major issue during our stay has been the constant pressure to purchase additional services. We were approached about what was presented as a “VIP brunch,” but it was clearly connected to a sales presentation for timeshare or vacation ownership. We were specifically asked to bring our credit card. I found this extremely uncomfortable and misleading. When guests are on vacation, they should not feel pressured into attending sales presentations disguised as a VIP experience or be repeatedly encouraged to purchase additional services. The overall feeling has been that we are constantly being approached or pressured to spend more money instead of simply being allowed to enjoy the vacation we already paid for. Today, we were so overwhelmed and disappointed that we decided to stay in our room and take a break from the resort. We simply needed to get away from the noise, crowds and constant stress. And that says everything about this vacation: we came to a resort to relax, and we ended up hiding in our room to find some peace. I also want to be honest about the staff. I cannot say that the staff were generally friendly or helpful based on our experience. Some interactions were particularly unpleasant, especially when I tried to report problems with the room. I understand that employees have difficult jobs, but guests should still be treated respectfully when they bring legitimate problems to the hotel's attention. The property itself is beautiful and has a lot of potential, but beautiful surroundings cannot compensate for poor management, overcrowding, maintenance problems, excessive noise, uncomfortable interactions and aggressive sales pressure. As a mother traveling with my son, I wanted a peaceful, safe and comfortable environment. Unfortunately, that is not what we experienced. Based on our experience, I would not return to the Senator Puerto Plata Spa Resort and I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet and relaxing vacation. Future guests should carefully research the weekend atmosphere, crowd levels, noise, condition of the rooms, local/day guest policies and the resort's sales practices before booking. For us, what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation has instead become an exhausting and stressful experience. We are extremely disappointed.

  Double Couple Vaycay

  The people are so fun. Especially the entertainment staff. The buffet is pretty standard each day but there's restaurants all around the resort for something different. The little shops are super cute too and has souvenirs, necessities and bits of culture to really rope you into the whole experience. The music is fantastic, the entertainment staff dance and chat with you like you're forever friends (Especially Shakira and Skinny, the best two) and many people are ready to help. The main staff know English if that's ever a concern but I'd still recommend learning some Spanish to make your visit a lot easier. Plus it's fun to see them light up when you speak in their language. Overall, great time, thank you so much Senator for the unforgettable memories!
