    Luxury Amenities, Inconsistent Five-Star Experience

Our stay at SLS Playa Mujeres didn’t start well. We arrived at 6pm after waiting 45 minutes for our prearranged airport transfer (standard maybe, but still frustrating), and while check-in was smooth, we quickly ran into a bigger issue. After traveling all day with two kids under nine who were starving, we discovered there’s no evening buffet — only breakfast — and three restaurants turned us away, saying they were full or couldn’t seat us for hours. For a $8,000+ stay at a “5-star” resort, not being able to get your family fed on arrival is disappointing. It’s a reminder that 5-star ratings often measure amenities on paper, not actual guest experience. We were directed to the Sports Bar, and the food quality was solid, but starting a family vacation surrounded by UFC/WWE on big screens wasn’t exactly ideal. The rooms are another major drawback. Fine for two people, but for a family of four they feel extremely tight. In 15 years of staying at all-inclusives across Mexico, this was easily the smallest room I’ve experienced. If space matters to you, be aware before booking. That said, once we settled in, things improved significantly. The pools — adult, family, and kids splash park — are excellent. The gym is impressive. Poolside food service was phenomenal, the beach was beautiful and meticulously maintained, and overall the amenities are strong. My second major issue — and one many reviewers mention — is the relentless upselling. During Super Bowl weekend, guests were asked to pay starting at $300 USD for tables just to watch the game outdoors. I’ve done Super Bowl at several all-inclusives over the years and have never encountered a pay-to-watch setup like that. By halftime they were discounting tickets heavily because seats weren’t selling. Similarly, the $200 Costco room credits came with so many restrictions that our group of eight left over $300 USD unused. It felt unnecessarily nickel-and-dimed. Despite the frustrations, the food and drink quality were outstanding — easily the best I’ve consistently experienced at an all-inclusive in recent years. I would return, but only with clear expectations about room size and the aggressive upselling tactics. The staff, however, deserve real recognition. They are hardworking, warm, and professional. Special thanks to Alin at Cleo and Alfredo at Caracoa — both went above and beyond and created memories for our family that we genuinely cherish. I just hope management reads feedback like this seriously instead of replying with a generic, performative apology.

    Above and Beyond

We went with our daughter and family to Cancun SLS where our butler went above and beyond. With a newer baby and still nursing they cleaned the pump parts and froze the milk before our flight home.

    Disappointing pool experience

We were a group of three families with kids, and unfortunately, none of them had a great time. The water in the family and kids’ pools was consistently cold, which was a major disappointment. We even stayed in the upgrade Captivate Swim-Out Room, which also had cold water in the pool. The overall experience was disappointing with otherwise a great resort with lot of positive things. Food, coffe/icecream bar, juice bar, restaurants, kids activities are all high rated.

Amazing time. Hope to go back one day!

Great experience all in all. Far and away the best food I’ve had at an all inclusive. Reviews we read prior to booking suggested that the service was sub-par - this was not the case. Food came out very quick, was tasty, and the service was incredibly attentive. Shout out Gabriel at Cleo, Alessandra at Cleo/Caracol, and Jenny (aka JLo) at the pool for holding us down the whole trip.

Exceptional service for stay and proposal

Axel and the concierge team went above and beyond to ensure that our proposal was perfect. The attention to detail, communication, planning, and execution was all flawless. Couple that with a beautiful resort and you have yourself an experience you won’t forget.
