    Amazing anniversary trip

The staff has been beyond fantastic. The menu in the restaurant is amazing. The food is amazing. We had a great time at the rum tasting. The view from our room is unmatched. I would absolutely come back again. Thanks to Soco hotel for making our 10 year anniversary so fantastic!

    They do not honor reservations

We booked our room in early October 2025, and received an email 2 days prior for our stay on 01-31-26 and Danielle the hotel manager informed us they had moved us to Wyndam Grand Barbados due to overbooking. The Wyndam is out in nowhere, not swimable, and a dump, We frantically searched for another place and the only place available was Sugar Bay Barbados which is $1,000 a night, which we booked. I asked Danielle to compensate us for the difference, which anything would have been a nice gesture, but no way. So please be aware this place is run by extremely incompetent people.Sugar Bay Barbados was a godsend, and the food was great and cocktails never ending and a great bar and beach to swim

    A 2 star experience!

Barbados is undoubtedly a lovely island — beautiful beaches, friendly people, and so much to explore. Unfortunately, our experience at The Soco Hotel did not meet expectations. Accommodation The rooms were dated and in need of refurbishment. While the décor and furnishings appeared worn and tired, the rooms were kept clean, and credit is due to the housekeeping staff who maintained good hygiene standards. Outdoor and Leisure Areas The outdoor facilities were disappointing and require significant improvement. The pool appeared uninviting, and the sun loungers were old and uncomfortable. There were only eight worn sunbeds on a small, misleadingly advertised beach area, which led us to spend additional money visiting other beaches around the island for a more enjoyable experience. Dining Experience The dining area also requires attention. The food was basic and portion sizes were small, particularly for an establishment advertising an à la carte offering. For eight out of ten nights, the “catch of the day” was tuna, and basic items such as brown bread often ran out. Service in the restaurant was below standard — the wait staff often appeared disengaged and, at times, rude. Hospitality should centre on warmth and professionalism, which were notably lacking. Cleanliness and Hygiene Another concerning issue was the presence of rats around the property, which detracted further from the sense of comfort and quality one would expect from a hotel of this rating. Bar Service The bar area was similar in standard to the rest of the hotel and would benefit from more variety for non-drinkers, such as a wider selection of mocktails and non-alcoholic options. Management and Overall Impressions It is clear that management, including owner, needs to improve standards across the hotel and up their game! Having read positive reviews prior to arrival, it was difficult to reconcile our experience with those comments, particularly as most fellow guests we spoke with shared our disappointment. Positives Among the highlights were three exceptional staff members: • Trudi – a breath of fresh air • Shaniqua – friendly and helpful • Michelle (bar staff) – engaging and pleasant We also met some lovely fellow guests, which added some enjoyment to our stay despite the shortcomings. The location itself is excellent, offering easy access to various attractions, and the views from the balcony were truly superb. While the Soco Hotel benefits from excellent views and a convenient location, these factors alone cannot justify a repeat visit or recommendation. The overall experience fell significantly short of expectations, and I would not recommend this property to others. June

    SoCo not so god

First of all, the location of the SoCo Hotel is absolutely stunning — you couldn’t wish for better. It’s central to many locations. It’s our first time in Barbados and absolutely not our last. It’s probably the best holiday location/island we’ve ever been to. The atmosphere and vibe are incredible, with many things to do and places to see. You don’t feel unsafe on the main streets or at venues. Now for the hotel: if it wasn’t for the location, this hotel would fall short. At best, I would describe it as 3-star+ ish. The food: hit and miss. Portion control is done within an inch of its life under the guise of “à la carte, small portions are their thing.” Ask for more toast — well, it’s not exactly greeted with enthusiasm! The first two days the food was not good: not much flavour, and nearly everything is on the bone. By the time you’ve picked the meat off, the portion size leaves you hungry — again, “à la carte”! Some meals are tasty and fit for purpose; others are very much lacking in both quality and quantity. The pizza, for instance, should be sued under the Trade Descriptions Act — I’ve never seen a pizza like it and hope never to again! The SoCo needs a thorough upgrade. It’s very tired and has been the same for many years, according to several people who stayed here years ago. The light fittings are rusty, paintwork needs touching up, chairs and loungers need replacing, and there is mould on the ceiling where you wait for lunch. The toilet facilities and rooms also need upgrading. Whoever owns the SoCo needs to plough some of that healthy profit back into the hotel. I think the trouble is that the hotel gets a lot of repeat customers and is full all year round, so they don’t feel the need to upgrade or compete with other hotels. Be careful, owners! The staff: largely very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. However, there are a couple of head-of-house ladies who don’t smile and treat you as just another hindrance to their day. A big thank you to Tarry and Michel for their hard work and friendly, attentive nature. To sum up: incredible location, beach, and sea; a tired hotel resting on its laurels; staff mostly very friendly — it’s just a shame about the few who let it down.
