Incredibly disappointing
This resort does not live up to its 5-star claim. Customer service was lackluster at best. The staff were unfriendly, lackadaisical, not willing to accommodate our group of 31 and just generally unpleasant. The food was lukewarm less the omelet and lamb chops. The only 2 that I experienced great service from were Dominique at Portafino and Smiley Johnny who brought my room service order. The staff didn't want to join tables for a party of 5. They didn't want to accommodate our music requests at Cloud 9. My room had a smell to it that I could not get rid of. The towels and robes were hard and rough opposed to plush and soft. I do not recommend this resort at all.

This is not an elevated experience
This resort was well below my expectations. I found it to be old and outdated with no modern accommodations. The staff was all incredibly rude. There was an issue with another guest lost phone that was discovered by my nanny and my son. She kept the phone hoping the guest would call it so that she could return it instead of taking it to the front desk and risking the guest never seeing their phone again. While I was off of the property the guest services reviewed security footage to discover who had the phone. He approached my nanny in her room and threatened to have her pack her bags and leave the property immediately as “stealing” was against resort policy. Luckily my mom was in a room a couple of doors down and heard the commotion. She let him know that she was not in fact stealing the found, that it had been found and she was holding it to return to the guest once they called it. My nanny was left in tears and he nor the resort management offered even an apology. Completely unacceptable. The dining options are also limited. There is not room service or late dining options. They also do not offer day passes to the adult only side of the resort. Across the location i had 4 rooms reserved. 3 on the family side and 1 on the adult only side. . If you are looking for a place to relax with an elevated experience this is not it. They seem to be unaware that the reason they are in hospitality is to be hospitable. But for tourist traveling to places like this they would not have employment. I definitely give it a 0 star.

Disappointing….
We recently stayed at Sonesta Ocean Point - disappointing. We expect a certain baseline of professionalism, service, and comfort—unfortunately, this resort in St. Maarten failed to meet even the most fundamental standards. The hospitality was notably poor. Staff disengaged, unaccommodating, and at times indifferent, creating an environment that felt more transactional than welcoming. Simple requests were met with delays or disregard, reflecting a clear lack of training and leadership. The property itself is dated and in need of considerable investment. The facilities lack the sophistication, upkeep, and modern amenities that today’s travelers rightly expect. Despite its Caribbean setting, there was no sense of luxury or elevated experience—just aging infrastructure and missed opportunities. In a region known for exceptional resorts and genuine warmth, this property was a significant disappointment. I would not return, nor would I recommend it to colleagues or fellow travelers seeking a well-managed, high-quality stay.

Dare No Longer Stay
Royal Sonesta Ocean Point – Butler Service Stay Unfortunately, this property did not meet expectations. Although marketed as a luxury experience, the resort did not seem prepared to accommodate even simple requests. We were told “no” to things such as changing the TV channel to American football, pushing two tables together so a group of five could sit together, or adjusting the music to something more contemporary (such as pop or R&B). The Butler Service was also disappointing and did not feel personalized or attentive. Service at Cloud 9 Bar was particularly poor. The bartender repeatedly left for smoke breaks while 30+ guests waited to be served, and overall customer service felt unfriendly and disorganized. Many employees seemed unhappy and at times rude, which definitely impacted the overall atmosphere. Unfortunately, this stay did not reflect the level of service promised and there is definitely room for major improvement in hospitality and guest experience.

Beautiful Property, But Service Was Deeply Disappointing for Group Travelers
I recently stayed at Sonesta Ocean Point All-Inclusive in St. Martin with a group of sorority sisters, excited for a relaxing and memorable getaway. While there were a few staff members who offered warm moments of hospitality, the overall service experience fell far below expectations—especially for a resort positioned as a four- to five-star destination. From arrival, we informed multiple staff members and restaurants that we were a large group traveling together and hoped to enjoy meals and celebrations collectively. Despite this, the waitstaff consistently made us feel like accommodating us was an inconvenience rather than a welcomed opportunity to host paying guests. We were often met with resistance, lack of warmth, and minimal willingness to assist—even after repeated requests made respectfully and in advance. As American travelers—specifically Black American women—this added an undertone of discomfort to the stay that we could not ignore. Instead of the hospitality one hopes for in a Caribbean resort experience, we felt overlooked and unsupported, which was disheartening during what should have been a celebratory trip. The property itself is beautiful, but hospitality is more than aesthetics, and for that reason, I cannot confidently recommend Sonesta Ocean Point for large groups or travelers expecting responsive, welcoming service. There are many stunning places to stay in St. Martin—so I would encourage others to consider all aspects of the guest experience before booking here.
