    Wonderful St Maarten Resort

My wife and I booked this resort through our local AAA and our travel advisor recommended this property for a weeks stay. It was everything we could've wanted in a weeks vacation. Excellent restaurants on site, and servers and staff that are there to please. We secured a Junior Suite Swim-out room, and it was wonderful. You basically could swim out from your back patio to a pool that wrapped around that section of ground floor rooms. 24/7 room service provided excellent service throughout our stay although we mainly used it for breakfast only, with an occasional order of a late night snack before going to bed. Two things to mention that were somewhat negative during our stay was that during a few morning breakfast trips to the Azul restaurant, we noticed more than a few of the local birds getting on the tables to eat whatever was leftover before the table was cleaned, and also leaving a few droppings along the way. I'm not a clean freak per say, but I would think this isn't exactly a good thing, but Azul is primarily an open air restaurant, so an occasional bird is going to gain access. Although the room daily housekeeping service was exceptional, with many kind and dedicated people providing this service, I have to warn anybody that gets Room 107 that the room adjacent to this room is used by the housekeeping staff, to store extra cleaning supplies. Every morning between 7 to 7:30am we would get woken up by the housekeeping staff moving cleaning carts, and banging of mops, brooms, and other things utilized by the staff. But the worst part was that because the bedroom had a wall that was paper thin right next to this supply room, we would hear a lot of loud talking, laughing, and other noises to wake us to our day. This could go on for 10-15 minutes on average, so by the time they left we were wide awake whether we wanted to be or not.

    Excellent stay! Highly recommend.

The resort is very close to the airport — from deplaning to clearing customs, picking up luggage, getting a taxi, and checking in at the resort, the entire process took only about 30 minutes. The resort itself is just a 5-minute drive from the airport. Taxis drop off at the Sonesta Maho lobby, where security alerts Ocean Point staff to pick you up by golf cart and take you to the Ocean Point lobby for check-in. We arrived around 4 p.m. and were greeted immediately with a cold drink and friendly smiles. Check-in was fast and efficient, and our room was ready upon arrival. ⸻ Room We stayed in a King Suite on the second floor overlooking Maho Beach. The room was spacious and well-appointed — a comfortable bed with plenty of pillows, end tables with lamps and outlets on both sides, a nice-sized TV, a couch, and a small table with two chairs. There was a large closet with a safe, robe, and slippers, and the fridge was fully stocked daily with water, soda, and beer. The room also included a coffee maker, ice bucket, and four bottles of liquor. The stand-up shower had great water pressure and perfect temperature control. The balcony was lovely, with a table and two chairs overlooking the beach. ⸻ Dining There are three restaurants on the Ocean Point side: Azul, Blue Fin, and Portofino. We ate at Azul and Portofino — both were fantastic, but Azul was our favorite for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu changed daily for lunch and dinner, and every meal was excellent. The view from Azul overlooking Maho Beach is absolutely stunning. Room service was also great — our lunch arrived quickly, with plenty of options. We also dined off the resort three nights, which was easy to do thanks to nearby restaurants and shops. We never had to wait for dinner seating. We usually went around 6:30–7:00 p.m. and were always seated promptly. On the family side there is a shared buffet and two other restaurants which we never went to. So I can’t comment on those. ⸻ Bars & Entertainment We spent our evenings between the Ocean Point lobby bar and the Maho lobby bar — both had friendly bartenders and a relaxed vibe. The Maho side had nightly entertainment, including karaoke, live music, and even a few slot machines. Across the street, we visited the casino and enjoyed one of the nightly shows there. On-site entertainment was held nightly; we attended twice and loved how the performers got the crowd involved. ⸻ Pools & Beach Ocean Point features three pools, all with bars nearby: • Main pool – overlooks Maho Beach with live music and a lively but relaxing atmosphere. • Swim-up bar pool – located near the gym; quiet and relaxing. • Edge pool – perched on the cliff next to Azul with breathtaking ocean views; very peaceful and never crowded. There’s no private resort beach, but it sits right next to Maho Beach, where planes famously land overhead — such a unique experience! It can get busy when cruise ships are in port, so we went when it was quieter and loved it. We also walked to Mullet Bay Beach (about 10 minutes away), which became one of our favorites. Chair and umbrella rentals were $30, and there were restrooms, showers, WiFi, food, and drinks available. ⸻ Location & Surroundings The resort is perfectly located next to Maho Village, a fun area with shops, restaurants, and nightlife. We enjoyed walking the strip each evening after dinner to soak in the atmosphere. Guests have access to the family side of the resort, though we preferred the quieter Ocean Point pools and restaurants. We did enjoy the family side’s evening entertainment, gift shop, and coffee shop (included in the all-inclusive package). The adult-only rooftop area on the family side was a great hidden gem for sunset views and live music. We also really appreciated the size of the resort — not too big, not too small — just perfect. It had everything we needed without feeling crowded, and it quickly became one of our favorite resorts we’ve ever stayed at. ⸻ Service & Housekeeping Housekeeping cleaned our room daily, restocked towels, and provided nightly turndown service. The fridge was replenished each day as well. The staff throughout the resort were incredibly friendly and welcoming — every single person we met was helpful and kind. We always saw staff cleaning and maintaining the resort throughout the day — they truly work hard to keep everything spotless and beautiful. Tip the staff! They absolutely deserve it for their exceptional service and constant hard work. ⸻ Getting Around & Excursions We did two excursions and also took taxis to explore on our own. The island felt very safe, and taxis were always easy to find in the Maho lobby. ⸻ Overall We have traveled all over the Caribbean — including Mexico, Aruba, the Dominican Republic, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Jamaica — and this was our first visit to St. Maarten. We absolutely loved it! The resort, staff, food, and location were all excellent. We can’t recommend Sonesta Ocean Point enough. It offered the perfect mix of relaxation, fun, and Caribbean beauty. We will definitely be returning!

    Just Go

Absolutely loved this resort. This was my first time staying on a resort where you can walk out-the doors onto the street filled with stores and restaurants if you didn’t want to eat on the resort. All the staff were friendly and helpful; Romaine on the rooftop was amazing. This trip was simply amazing I would definitely come back to St. Maarten in a heartbeat we came with my best friend to celebrate her Birthday. You won’t be disappointed.

SONESTA Maho Bay two resorts: adult or family

A company award trip. I liked the resort, but colleagues who brought children were not permitted on the adults side resulting in very different experiences. The food venues for family versus the adult only sides were significantly different. One staff member Sudneese running the adult side lobby Cafe and the lobby pool bar is excellent as the adult in the area ensuring that the guest experiences is enjoyable for everyone without spilling over into excess. She would do well managing many service arras more critical than a Cafe or bar. Starting with the chaotically managed family zone cafeteria.

    Really Good

I stayed on the adults only side which was nice and peaceful but I could walk over to the other side for more action. Food was good and the service was really good, very attentive. Drinks were strong. I would go back, definitely better then some other all inclusive places Ive stayed at.
