BEWARE OF THIS RESORT NOW OWNED BY HYATT CORP.
My wife and I have traveled all over the Caribbean for the past fifty years and have stayed at some fantastic places. This past week we stayed at the Sunscape resort on the island of Curacao, that is now owned by the Hyatt Corporation. I would like to start by saying that the beach, tidal pool and ocean are just breathtaking, with crystal clear water. We had a nice ocean front room with a great view and great air conditioning. They had one good restaurant which was a Hibachi grill, the food was fantastic and cook and wait-staff were great. This is where the good comments stop. I have never posted a negative comment about a resort prior to this. The main dining hall that served breakfast, lunch and dinner we nicked named the Mess Hall served the same below par food for the entire stay. The so-called mini bar in the room that they advertise as fully stocked is truly a joke. You may not believe this, but you were limited to two sodas a day, again that is one soda a day for my wife and I. I am not kidding because this is what we were advised by the staff. We traveled through the Unlimited Vacation Club with friends that have a membership. There were five couples in the group. Bridget, who is employed by the club, was great and tried to help us as much as she was able to. Her hands were tied and could only do what the Hyatt personnel would allow her to do. Some in our group had to switch rooms, due to many deficiencies with their rooms. After cleaning our room, the maid took the comforter off the bed and did not replace it. It took two days to get replaced. There was absolutely no pool or beach service at all zero. The drinks were so so and had to ask for double to get any resemblance of a drink. I don’t drink so this did not bother me. One day the beer tab was not working, so the was no beer for most of the day. Two members of our group fixed it for the bartender. This happened at the other bar that was close by also. So, whoever set the taps that day, evidently did not know what they were doing. While at the resort, we talked to many other guests that were of the same opinion of the resort that I have posted here. BEWARE OF THE SUNSCAPE RESORT NOW OWNED BY HYATT CORP. Stop worrying!!! It’s great!
I can not understand why this place has so many negative reviews. I can only imagine that people want to keep this gem to themselves and the price down or they have champagne taste on a beer budget. I have stayed at several dreams and secrets properties and while this one is more dated what it lacks in shinny newness it more than makes up for in service. As it was nominal in price we did upgrade to Sunclub and I would say money well spent. Pros: Always hot showers, best bed and pillows I’ve had at a hotel, the pool maintenance is soo good, snorkeling off the beach is AWESOME, good food variety, felt very safe, everything was very very clean, great drinks, liked the casino and the evening programming had great variety and we loved the music. Every employee here wanted to see us have a good time and went out of their way to be welcoming- especially our gal Zorida at the sunclub pool.

Bait and switch (website photos are not accurate), dishonest, worst honeymoon experience
We were on our honeymoon, booked the honeymoon suite, when we checked in on Thursday, they charged me the full amount and then put us in a deluxe room with 2 double beds. When returning to the sun club thinking it was a mistake, the supervisor (arielle?) said hold on, and left me to go check in other guests at the front counter, when asking someone else where the supervisor went they told me the front desk was busy so the supervisor needed to check people in before she could help me (unprofessional). upon returning to the sun club to me she said there is nothing they can do, a suite wouldn't be available until Monday. We spoke to a few people/couples at the beach/pool who said they had gotten upgraded to the honeymoon suite for small complaints earlier in the week (which is why there were none left for our check in). I went back to the sun club Friday morning, the manager wasn't available and the person told me no suites were available until Monday, then went back to the pool and spoke to new person/couple just checking in who was given a suite (unbelievable), went back to the sun club and spoke to manager Kareen who told me they had given away all the honeymoon suites but found us a junior suite for the reminder of our stay. We had to pack up all of our stuff and move from building 3 across the property to building 2, never got our honeymoon suite and was never refunded the difference in room level costs. I contacted HYATT by email and by virtual assistance on their app. The virtual assistance said they couldn't help and the email was never responded to. very disappointed in this stay. The spa had no experience, they took us from the front desk in our bathing suits to the massage room, no robes, sauna, steam room. The beach had very little sand on it, it was down to concrete in a lot of places, restaurants required you to wait in line for over an hour if you wanted to eat and the Hibachi place reservations sold out in less than 10mines. Such a difference from when we go to Hilton or Marriot properties.

Poor value for the price paid
We stayed for a week and paid extra for the sun club. Pros- the resort is very clean, beds are comfortable beaches are nice. Staff are friendly but many are not overly energetic. Entertainmment was good. Japanese restaurant was excellent Cons- Room AC doesn't work, Luke warm showers, no robes in room, no blow dryer, cupboards in dressers don't close, resort need upgrades. Sun club area not worth the extra money, restaurant food always cold when brought to table, no beach bar service, rarely a swim up bar tender, no snacks in sunclub area as advertised, buffet not bad but could be better. Premium check in was a joke. Had to ask for a drink while we waited in line and watch other travellers check in faster at the regular check in spot. Overall not bad if I paid half as much. I have had far better service and accommodations for.less money at other resorts. Way overpriced for what you get.

Will not return
Cockroaches, terrible AC, toilet didnt flush right, door lock broken, refrigerator warm, didnt change sheets only tucked them back in, will not return. Oceana, Italian restaurants were good, Blue water Grill ok. Buffet awful. Dont pay for Sun Club, not worth it. So bummed spent the money for vacation here. Ocean access good, beach chairs ok except awful sewer smell.
