Oct 11, 2026A Little Slice of Old Waikīkī, With Style, Soul, and Genuine Aloha!
Tucked among the increasingly expensive and unnecessarily drab hotels of Waikīkī is a little gem called The Surfjack. It’s swanky, vibey, full of personality, and refreshingly affordable! The decor has this super cool 1960s retro vibe that gives the whole place a fun, nostalgic charm. There’s something about Surfjack that feels reminiscent of old Waikīkī. It’s got style without being pretentious, great food without ridiculous prices, and, most importantly, people who genuinely make you feel welcome. Not the polished, corporate version of aloha, but the real thing. The kind where people take the time to connect with you, remember the little things, and make you feel like more than just another room number. The food at Mahina & Sun’s was delicious, high quality, and reasonably priced, which is becoming something of a novelty in Waikīkī! And the staff? Absolutely wonderful. Eli, Whitney, Hoku, and Eugene at the front desk greeted us with genuine aloha and went above and beyond to make our stay special. They took the time to make sure we were comfortable, had everything we needed, and were genuinely enjoying ourselves. We brought our two pups along, and I can’t say enough about how dog-friendly this place is! Our dogs weren’t just tolerated, they were welcomed. Allison at Mahina & Sun’s even remembered both of their names after just one day and made a point of giving them extra love and attention. It’s those little things that make a place memorable. Surfjack manages to be cool without trying too hard, affordable without sacrificing quality, and welcoming without feeling scripted. In a Waikīkī increasingly filled with big hotels and corporate hospitality, Surfjack is a refreshing reminder of what makes Hawaiʻi special in the first place: the people, the connections, and the aloha. We’ll absolutely be back!

Most of the experience is great. 3rd time there. However i was not too thrilled to end up with a view that i asked to avoid. My note to the hotel when i booked was missed therefore i got assigned a room that i wanted to avoid.

Boutique Hotel w/ Great Customer Service
This is my 8th time staying at this hotel property. It is not the giant hotel resort where you are nameless. This is a place where they will remember your face and make you always feel welcome. I love seeing the dogs and kitties come in with guests; gives me comfort. I would also say that most families that stay here with kids - their kids are well behaved and just enjoying their stay. The pool area is quaint, cleaned consistently, and perfect for the size hotel it is. The front desk staff are aces!! The coffee shop, Arvo, attached makes a great latte so def stop there for one plus you get a discount if you are a guest. Jack the hotel mascot pup is a beefy cutie delight that you can hang out with on Tuesdays poolside. The staff at Mahina & Suns in the hotel are very welcoming and serve up a great cocktail/smoked ahi spread! All in all, you really can’t beat the nightly rates here in comparison to the rest of Waikīkī. They do have usage of a parking garage a couple blocks away for $40/night which is still below the going rate when compared to other hotels. Parking stalls are tight but space is a luxury on an island; just back your car into spaces and you’ll be golden. Thank you as always to the entire Surfjack team for taking excellent care of me all these years.

Fantastic pool, restaurant, and rooms. Casual atmosphere and amazing staff.
Amazing hotel that provides just enough buffer from busy Waikiki to provide a bit of respite but still close enough to easily walk to everything Waikiki offers, including the beach. Front desk staff are amazing (thank you Kaui, Elu and Hoku for your awesomeness). Fantastic pool with evening adult-only hours. The restaurant (Mahina and Suns) has an amazing chef and unique, tasty offerings (bacon wrapped dates - wow).
