Nelson The Bear welcomes you!
Stayed one night to take my daughter to the theatre in the West End. It's the most central of locations imaginable and you can walk to any number of major attractions. A minutes stroll to the National Gallery for opening time at 10am can't be beaten. But what stood out was just how smart and well run the hotel is. Welcoming door staff, efficient reception, modern lifts, gorgeous and immaculate bedrooms, molton brown toiletries, modern easy to use smart TV. Quiet and effective a/c. All the small and not do small details were spot on. To add to this, shortly after checking in, Nelson the bear was brought to our room alongside a welcome pack for my daughter. He was one big bear! But he had to stay sadly, I guess he'd miss Trafalgar square if he ever left. My only minor pointers for improvement are that some chocolates at turndown would have been great and the complimentary drinks in the mini bar are coke or water, a wider choice would have been appreciated. The Nespresso machine is s top quality though. Room 303 is a corner room which looks straight on to Nelson's column so is a fantastic and unique experience to stay in. And it's well soundproofed so don't worry about noise from Trafalgar Square, despite it being so close. If you can secure this room or it's equivalent on other floors you must, I'm sure all the rooms are good though. We ate at Rockwell in the early evening as well as breakfast the next. Good food and they had a live singer in the evening. Would stay again without hesitation.

**An Excellent Location with a Few Expensive Trade-Offs**
The Trafalgar St. James earns four out of five stars from us. The staff was consistently helpful, assisting with luggage, taxis, Tube service, and the best way to reach St. Pancras International. Those details matter when you’re navigating London as a visitor. Our split-level suite was comfortable, spacious by London standards, and decorated with terrific artwork, including a large 1969 photograph of Mick Jagger hanging above the bed. The room included a Nespresso machine, shortbread biscuits, and a mini-fridge replenished daily with water, Coke, and Coke Zero. One design flaw deserves mention. The electrical outlet above the vanity was installed so close to the tabletop that almost nothing larger than a matchbook could be plugged into it. That made it useless for a hair dryer, converter, or travel adapter. Someone apparently measured once and drilled twice. Breakfast was exceptional, with an extensive buffet and additional cooked-to-order choices. The morning hostess was especially cheerful and remembered our names, a small touch that made a significant impression. The hotel’s restaurants also served good food, although the menus were somewhat limited. Unfortunately, the rooftop bar was closed for remodeling, which was not disclosed when we booked. That was one of the property’s advertised attractions and influenced our selection, so discovering the closure after arrival was disappointing. Strike one. The location is hard to beat. The hotel is near Piccadilly Circus and within walking distance of Buckingham Palace, the National Gallery, and St Martin-in-the-Fields. The Admiral pub directly across the street is also convenient and serves very good traditional pub food and drinks. That central location comes with a price beyond the room rate. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic around Trafalgar Square can be horrific, so allow extra time for taxis and transfers. The elevators were modern and speedy, the room had effective central air, and the suite was a decent size. Still, this is a very expensive hotel, and I’m not convinced the overall experience completely justifies the price. Then again, a centrally located London hotel with air conditioning and enough room to turn around involves trade-offs. Overall, an enjoyable stay with excellent service, a memorable room, and an outstanding breakfast. With better disclosure about unavailable amenities and a few practical room improvements, this could easily have been a five-star experience.

Justifies the high rating
We did a one nighter here as locals to easily visit the football and a tour of Buckingham Palace and it was glorious The location is slap bang in Trafalgar Square and sooo handy for the West End, Theatreland, the Royal Parks and tube. Despite being so central it's amazingly quiet and serene. Our room was upgraded to a studio which was lovely with a raised seating area and pivoting smart TV, cool aircon and a comfy bed. The bathroom was absolutely immaculate- I think they have the best Housekeeping staff ever. Evening turn down even replaced our used coffee pods for the Nespresso and the bathroom had lovely Molton Brown Coastal products. All staff were friendly helpful and intuitive- we get why this place is so highly rated within London. Only slight shame is the rooftop bar is currently closed for a refurb but we solved that need on the roof of the ME at Aldwych a 10 min walk away Such a great hotel, highly recommend
