  My husband (54yrs) and I (50yrs) stayed for 7 days from August 22nd-29th at Unico Riviera Nayarit to celebrate my belated and our sons 18th birthday. If I could give the resort 3.5/5 stars I would. We had a bit of an odd stay at Unico so please bear with me as this is going to be lengthy. I'd like to start with the positives. The staff are WONDERFUL : Eduardo - our personal concierge Lucio - concierge Diana - concierge Carlos - management Eliud - at Kobo, Lia and Aqua Madre Arturo - at Lia Fernando - at Lia Jorge - at Lia Manuel - poolside service The good include the short transfer from the airport (25min or less). We booked this through Unico but would likely use Uber next time. It would be a lot cheaper. Food at the 3 restaurants was definitely above average for an all inclusive. And it was a nice surprise that Unico now offers a (very) small breakfast buffet at the Aqua Madre restaurant on the outside patio. The grounds are lovely and kept very clean. We loved the large pool and a swim up bar was nice to have. The beds in the rooms are extremely comfortable as are the pillows. In our Oceanview 2 king room with 3 adults we had plenty of space. We never had to 'save' chairs by the pool as there were always many available. I know August isn't the busiest time for these resorts, but our days spent at the pool seemed so quiet and empty. I've never experienced that before. We met a number of lovely guests who were from the United States too! Shout out to Kristen and Geoff from Fort Worth, Cindy and the gals from Dallas, and the 2 gentlemen who returned home to Atlanta partway through our trip (I'm sorry I didn't catch your names). We've never traveled to Mexico in the summer and won't do that again. Holy smokes it was HOT. I'm used to heat and humidity, but this was something else. It also makes the pool so warm that it's not even refreshing. And the ocean was close to 90 degrees. Insane! The ocean color was very brown looking due to it being the rainy season. Onto some of our concerns. Our stay started out in room 416 which seemed nice but the view wasn't great. It was right above the lobby roof and near all of the mechanical and air conditioning units that run constantly. Sitting outside on the balcony was very loud. We were in this room for 2 nights until we popped in during the afternoon and found a rather large puddle of water on the floor which seemed to be coming out of the ceiling smoke detector. I had noticed the night before that the ceiling had been patched up (badly) and repainted after what I assumed to be some sort of water damage. When I contacted Eduardo our concierge, he immediately came to the room with maintenance. It looked like we were going to be moved to a different room until maintenance came back alone, took down the smoke detector, dried it with a rag and left. I was told by Eduardo it was all fixed. However, 20min later it started again. We were told we'd be moved to a suite on the 2nd floor which only had one king bed but they'd move another in to accommodate our son. My husband confirmed it wouldn't be a cot and was assured it wasn't. When we got to the room it was very large and spacious, king bed and twin size cot included. I was NOT happy. Our son is 6' tall and couldn't sleep comfortably in such a bed. After much back and forth I finally asked to see a manager. That's when we met Carlos. He was understanding and said that a couple had arrived to their 2 king room and decided they only wanted a single king. So they were able to place us in room 702 which offers a much better view and was quieter. This whole situation took 6 hours to resolve which caused us to the miss our dinner reservation so we ordered room service. It was ok, but not something I'd want to order again. The next morning we were woken at 6am by our son yelling frantically. Once I managed to get the lights turned on he said that something had run over his shoulder in bed which he grabbed and threw onto the ground. It was a huge cockroach. Dear god. I got a cup and trapped the roach under it. I called the front desk who were very apologetic and sent maintenance up immediately. Needless to say, after our uninvited visitor was escorted out, we weren't sleeping any longer. Later that morning I did sit down with Eduardo and Lucio at the concierge desk and showed them the picture of the cockroach. Listen, I understand we're in Mexico. It's not my first time traveling and seeing a roach. However, we were on the 7th floor and it was in my sons bed! Eduardo and Lucio offered us a cabana for the day and decorated my sons bed for his birthday as compensation. Eduardo also assured me that housekeeping would do a deep clean of the room and change all bedding on both beds. Maintenance also sprayed for bugs. Room noise is also an issue. All 3 of the rooms we were in had adjoining doors to the room next door. If the neighboring room was occupied you could hear them talking, yelling, their cell phone ringing and (more than once) the guests using the bathroom. It was awkward and made me worry what they heard from us! I couldn't get the air conditioning any lower than 22 degrees in the room. Even setting it at 18.5 didn't make a difference. And the rooms don't have a ceiling fan. I'm 50 so I run hot all the time lol! Oh, and speaking of fans, why does a brand new resort not install a fan in the bathroom? Sharing a bathroom with 2 fellas in Mexico is hard enough. No fan makes it even worse. If you catch my drift. The food was very good overall, but only having 3 restaurants really does limit your options. I understand this is a smaller resort, but another dining option or two would've been great. The cafe is nice to have and we'd often grab a little sandwich and iced coffee before heading to our room after a day by the pool. Karaoke on our first night was SO much fun! The resort should consider doing a second night of this. They also had a live female singer one evening who was really talented and got many people up and dancing. Just a note to those who do want to dance, maybe avoid smacking other guests and staff on the bum after you've consumed far too much alcohol. There's always one who takes things too far....and this woman was that one. When security has to get involved you should know it's time to return to your room (or Orange County!) Sorry for the long post but I've learned a lot from reading others reviews and hope to do the same in return. Would we come back to this Unico location? Not likely. But we do appreciate the kindness of the staff and have plenty of happy memories.

  Excellent vacation

  Beautiful resort. Rooms are so nice - new and clean and comfortable. We had an amazing view. There is construction next door at the hard rock but you can’t hear it! The resort only has 3 restaurants… no buffet unless you go for breakfast to one but it’s VERY small. Only “complaint” is not enough food options but it’s a small resort so I understand. Brenda at the pool, Manuel at the pool and Gisel and Axil, Carl at the pool were wonderful. They are fantastic servers and bartenders. I hope to see them again on our next visit!! The manager of the Italian is excellent. Super friendly and always helped us with our wine getting it decanted. Rooftop is stunning for sunset - highly recommend! Never worry about a chair at the pool it’s not busy. Unless you are legendary we did need to grab a chair there or they’re reserved quickly for hall of fame. We were on the 10yh floor and it was a lovely view. Our shower had very little water pressure but oh well we are in vacation and sounds like this is a 10th floor issue! There are only 11 floors and the rooftop pool is on 11z

  Enjoyable

  We just returned from our second visit . This trip was just as wonderful as the first. We enjoyed the Mexican restaurant for lunch almost every day, I especially liked the crab totostada, and Caesar salad and grilled shrimp. My husband especially enjoyed Kobo restaurant. The workers at this resort are exceptional including Axel the bartender, Adrian, the mixologist, Veronica the waitress at lobby bar, the bartenders at the lobby bar(I’m sorry I lost their names, workers at the Italian restaurant including Fatima and Carlos Castaneda at the rooftop pool. And my hosts Dylan and Francisco. We are hoping to return for a third time. I

  This was a small resort with limited entertainment and restaurant choices . However we had a fabulous time meeting new friends The staff was amazing . Our butler Dylan and his team kept us informed of activities and reservations. I loved the water class with Luis or eliana. Our bartenders were incredable Grissel, Brenda Marie so special and the musicians great
