UNICO lived up to Tripadvisor Reviews
We stayed here at UNICO for first time from Thursday 11/21 to 11/28. It was a pleasant stay. As a lot of the reviews have said, the food was very good, and the employees were great. When we arrived at about 4pm on Thursday we had to wait about 20 minutes for the check-in process to start. The time share person wasn’t pushy and stopped as soon as we said we weren’t interested. We were in our room by 4:45pm. We had to change rooms (swimup) after the first day due to A/C problems and a strong mildew odor. Hector our host was immediately on top of it and got us a different room the same day. NOTE: He also had a dehumidifier put in our room so there was no need to have DAMP-Rid. I would recommend that you ask for a dehumidifier as soon as possible, it really helps. We would like to thank the following employees for their exceptional work and friendly service: Hector our host, I highly recommend him. He would find us every day to check on how everything was. We had some great conversations with him. He was busy because he had 29 other rooms to keep track of. Mariana at Mi Carisa for breakfast was a joy to talk to every morning. She is by far the best server we had. Lizabeth and Guadalupe pool waitstaff. Even though they were kept very busy by all the people at the main pool they still made time to chat with us. Others that also made our stay pleasant were: Wilberth, Luis Mendez at 2087 breakfast. Nicolas, Jacob and Antonio at Mura. Henrry and Santos at Mi Carisa for dinner. Miguel at 2087 for Lunch. Luis room service. We rented a cabana (596) by the quiet pool for 2 days. Although it was nice, I would only recommend doing it if you want to get lobster and filet for lunch and bottle liquor to take back to your room (you have a $230 credit to buy these things and any amount you don’t use you lose. I would stay here again.

We love Unico
I am a frequent traveler to Unico. This was our 6th time visiting in the last three years or so. First the resort is absolutely beautiful. It reminds me of a cozy boutique resort with an at home feel complete with a magnificent lobby with large decorative lanterns and chess and checker tables in the lobby bar area. Top notch decor and staff. I especially want to point out our butlers Javier and Rodrigo. They are an excellent team and always go out of their way to make us feel good about being there. They have really tried to get to know us as members and give us personal attention to what we like while vacationing. All in all Unico is spectacular and we feel like it’s our home away from home. This is the standard of service that you will absolutely leave feeling like you had the best vacation ever.

Wonderful Visit But…
My husband, my daughter and her friend just returned from a week at this lovely resort which we have enjoyed several times in the past. The weather was amazing! It’s a nice time of the year to travel to the Caribbean. The variety of dining options was eclectic - we particularly enjoyed Mi Carisa where the new manager, Irving, and the resourceful attendant, Christian, were in command of the reservations and table placements. We were happy to see that Carlos, the previous manager, has been promoted to assistant manager of food and beverage for the resort. He’s an extremely conscientious leader, and we were glad to note he has been rewarded for his efforts. Our wonderfully helpful butlers, Israel and Roger, attended to our every need. They went out of their way to make our stay stress-free. We enjoyed the beauty salon where we all had manis/pedis. I loved my hot-stone pedicure! Suzi was particularly attentive! And, we visited the spa where we had massages and facials, too. Our only strong recommendation is that the resort review its Thanksgiving dinner offerings. It’s the second time we have visited the resort at Thanksgiving, and the same unattractive turkey roll wrapped in bacon was presented. Unico, you can do much better!! Otherwise, it was a delightful and relaxing experience!

Overall Good Expereince But Doesn’t Rise Above Other All-Inclusives
Overall this resort is very similar to other all-inclusives I’ve stayed at. As always, there’s some pros and cons and they balance themselves out. For the most part food was good and consistent. A couple of meals were bland. The chefs here don’t understand what spicy means which is disappointing when in Mexico. Drinks were average at best. Unfortunately the bar staff was not very knowledgeable and was unable to make slightly more sophisticated drinks like a Bees Knees- 3 common ingredients. Cocktail menus were limited and I was disappointed to find that I was charged for a glass of red wine I ordered at the steakhouse. Bottles of wine or higher end I understand but I just asked for a glass of red wine and was charged $33! My biggest complaint overall is lack of straws especially for frozen cocktails. Wooden stirrers are offered as a replacement but not sure why. Compostable straws are the new norm and disappointed not to see these here. Resort was clean and staff was friendly. We were approached and offered to discuss their vacation club on arrival but once we said we weren’t interested they left us alone which was nice. The gym was smaller and constantly crowded. The daily pool activities led by resort staff were always fun and enjoyable. I didn’t partake in spa services as they are markedly overpriced prior to arrival. It’s very important to know that outside of breakfast all other meals are sit down/al la carte only. This is a nice touch but it’s inconvenient in that you’ve got to make reservations in advance and there’s limited opportunity for walk ins. The idea of a buffet being available is convenient and at times nice to have for lunch and dinner which is commonly found at most other all-inclusives. Lastly I’d like to see shuttle service offered from the new Tulum airport. These flights were less expensive but there was transportation offered from this airport. These flights resort it equally between Tulum and Cancun airports so I’d think this is a reasonable ask.

A slice of paradise
Really exceptional experience. Our butler Hector was very attentive and helped us with all of our needs. During our arrival Yicel got us checked in and set us up for our stay. Beautiful property with excellent food. Happy we got to see the Christmas decor before we left. Don’t sleep on the activities. They are really fun! Looking forward to our return.
