  A Solid 4 - Beautiful intimate resort.

  This resort and its staff are exceptional. The resort is intimate compared to some of the more enormous resorts in the area. No need for a "tram" to get from point A to point B. However, there are several reasons I didn't rate it a 5: (1) At Mi Carisa we were seated near the grill and there was one waiter who used the back of our booth as a "table" to record his orders. It was rude and he didn't seem to notice. (2) our suite, 3103, had issues with inconsistent water temperature in the shower (ice cold to scalding in a cycle) we were able to get it repaired before we left. A couple of days we noticed trash in the swim up pool, (ketchup packet, sugar packet) that obviously came from housekeeping sweeping the decks upstairs above our pool (3) We didn't like the sales pitch as soon as we arrived from the airport. We were exhausted! We did attend then next morning and enjoyed the perks but we won't join a vacation club. We're not creatures of habit. You absolutely must eat at Avec!!! The short rib is chef's kiss. Everything is. My next favorite is 20 87 Grill for dinner; it is very very good. The decor and atmosphere at Mi Carisa is really good. The mixology lesson offered by Mixologist Luis was AWESOME! The bar tenders a Bar Balam are awesome as well. Our swim up suite was awesome. I love the customization menu and realized we made a good decision with our aromatherapy and pillow choices. In Room dining is really fast and tasty. Our host and housekeeping staff made sure we had everything we needed. Our host Kari made our dinner reservations and made sure all of our questions were answered. Kind of a mixed review. But overall a solid 4. Would definitely return.

  Amazing

  My husband and I spent the first week of our honeymoon at this Unico and we are grateful that we did. The atmosphere was so relaxing and luxurious. The service was amazing and we had the pleasure of having Alejandro & Alexander as our butlers! They were so sweet and took care of everything. Where Unico really shines is their food selection. The food here is truly delicious!! We had so many favorite bites. Plus they have an exclusive mixology menu that is out of this world.

  Great for Solo Travelers & Perfect for Relaxing

  Here’s the updated review with the room details worked in while keeping the overall tone positive and balanced: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had a wonderful stay at UNICO 20°87° Riviera Maya, but what truly elevated my experience was the exceptional customer service — particularly from my personal concierge, Ambar. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Ambar. She went above and beyond throughout my entire stay to make sure I was comfortable, taken care of, and having an incredible experience. She was attentive, responsive, warm, proactive, and genuinely seemed invested in making my vacation special. Ambar is exactly what the hospitality industry NEEDS. There is a huge difference between simply providing good service and making a guest feel genuinely cared for, and she absolutely understands that difference. She is a tremendous asset to UNICO and was easily one of the highlights of my stay. THE RESORT The resort itself is relatively small compared with some of the sprawling all-inclusive resorts in Riviera Maya, but I actually appreciated that. The property is beautiful, intimate, and very well maintained. The grounds were consistently immaculate, and I was impressed by how clean everything was kept throughout the day. The poolside service was outstanding. The staff was attentive without being intrusive, and I never felt like I had to hunt someone down when I wanted something. It was very easy to spend the day relaxing by the pool and truly feel like I was on vacation. THE ROOM My room was HUGE, and UNICO does a fantastic job with the in-room amenities. They provide things you don’t always expect to find at a resort, including full-sized toothpaste, shaving cream, and other toiletries, and everything was replenished daily. It’s a small detail, but one I really appreciated. The bed was SUPER comfortable. I slept incredibly well every single night, which is always important to me on vacation. And then there’s the shower. 😂 It is an overhead rainfall shower, so ladies… BEWARE. IYKYK! Plan accordingly! That said, the actual shower experience was fantastic. The water pressure and temperature were literal perfection. The room itself could use some updating. I had an issue with my air conditioning during my stay. Maintenance came and repaired it, but unfortunately it stopped working again on my last night. I also had issues with the automatic shut-off lights in my closet. They stopped working properly and were never repaired during my stay. Neither issue ruined my vacation, but for a resort at this level, I think a refresh of the guest rooms would do the property well. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and have great amenities, but some of the fixtures and technology are starting to show their age. THE SPA — GO! The spa is EXCELLENT — so much so that I went TWICE! If you visit, do yourself a favor and book the Four Hands Massage. Having two therapists working simultaneously is an EXPERIENCE, and it was easily one of my favorite indulgences of the trip. The spa itself is beautiful and relaxing, and the service matched the atmosphere. ROOM SERVICE UNICO offers 24/7 room service, which I definitely appreciated. However, the menu is somewhat limited, particularly if you’re staying several days and want more variety. I loved having it available around the clock, but I would like to see the resort expand the selections. THE WILDLIFE… WHEW! 😂 Now for something travelers should absolutely know before booking: the wildlife. I completely understand that the resort was built within the animals’ natural habitat, and I certainly don’t expect wildlife to disappear because we’re vacationing there. That said, the sheer number of animals around the property was A LOT for me. There were coatis, raccoons, spider monkeys, and iguanas, and the coatis in particular seemed to be EVERYWHERE. At times, you could easily see 20+ coatis around the pool area alone. They appeared harmless and generally went about their business, but this wasn’t just an occasional cute animal sighting. In fact, on my last night, I had what I can only describe as a standoff with a raccoon on my floor near my neighbors’ doors! 😂 Neither one of us knew what to do. I was scared of him, he appeared equally scared of me, and after we stared at each other trying to figure out our next move, we both took off running in opposite directions! It’s hilarious now, but it also illustrates just how integrated the wildlife is throughout the property. This wasn’t somewhere off in the landscaping or near the jungle — the raccoon was literally on the guest-room floor near people’s doors. At any given moment, you could open your room door and unexpectedly come face-to-face with wildlife. Again, I understand this is their natural habitat, and I never saw the animals behaving aggressively. But if you’re uncomfortable with animals being in very close proximity to you, this is definitely something to consider. For me, there is a difference between occasionally spotting wildlife and feeling like the wildlife has overrun some of the guest areas, and at times it definitely felt like the latter. WHO SHOULD STAY HERE? I think UNICO is perfect for couples and solo travelers, as well as anyone looking for a beautiful, upscale, relaxing vacation. As a solo traveler, I felt very comfortable here, and I could absolutely see why couples would love it as well. However, if you’re coming to Mexico looking for a major PARTY/turn-up resort, I don’t think UNICO is necessarily the best fit. The atmosphere is much more sophisticated, relaxed, and laid-back. That’s not a negative — you just need to know what kind of vacation you’re booking. If your priority is nonstop parties, a packed nightlife scene, and high-energy entertainment all day and night, you may want a livelier resort. OVERALL Overall, I had an excellent stay at UNICO 20°87°. The resort is beautiful, the grounds are immaculate, the poolside service is fantastic, the bed had me sleeping GOOD every night, and the spa alone is worth experiencing. There are areas where the resort could improve — particularly refreshing the guest rooms, addressing maintenance issues more permanently, expanding the room-service menu, and finding ways to better manage the amount of wildlife entering heavily trafficked guest areas. But the standout of my entire experience was unquestionably Ambar. UNICO management: whatever you’re doing to retain Ambar, KEEP DOING IT. Employees who understand hospitality at her level are what turn a beautiful resort into an experience guests actually remember. Ambar didn’t just provide great service — she made me feel taken care of. And THAT is hospitality. I especially like the rainfall-shower warning 😂 — it says exactly what needs to be said without having to explain what IYKYK means.

  Unik experience

  We had an amazing stay at UNICO Riviera Maya! The hotel is absolutely beautiful, the food was incredible, and the service was exceptional. A very special thank you to Isaias, our butler, who truly made our stay unforgettable. He was extremely professional, attentive, kind, and always made sure we had everything we needed. His wonderful service made our experience even more special. We can’t wait to come back!

  Fall vacation

  We visited the resort for 8 nights at the beginning of September. We had a swim out in building 3. It was perfect to have sun the majority of the day. Our local host was Laura. She was amazing and took care of all of our needs. She made the trip fantastic!
