  Convenient Location Across from Rick's Café, But Needs Major Updates

  I want to start by saying that the host was very polite and welcoming. We chose this boutique villa because it is directly across the street from Rick's Café, and the location was its biggest selling point. Having stayed in Negril before and being familiar with boutique hotels, we knew not to expect a five-star luxury experience. However, this property is not worth nearly $300 per night. The only room with air conditioning is the bedroom, which we understand is likely to help conserve energy. Unfortunately, the rest of the villa, especially the living room and kitchen, is outdated and in need of significant renovations. Although there is a full kitchen, everything looked so old that I wasn't comfortable using it to cook, make tea, or even warm up food. The bathroom water pressure was extremely low. We understand Negril is still recovering from the hurricane that passed through several months ago, so that may have contributed to the issue, but it was still disappointing. The villa felt dark and poorly maintained. The black-painted floors made the space feel even older, and they did not appear to have been properly swept or mopped. There is no air conditioning in the living area, and because the windows have louvered shutters, mosquitoes easily get inside. Even with bug spray, it was uncomfortable to spend time in the living room. Another disappointment was that the cable television did not work, which made for a very long evening. The host did mention that we could call if we had any issues, but by the time we discovered the problem, it was late, so we chose not to bother them. The only real positive was the bed, which was very comfortable. Unfortunately, that alone was not enough to make up for the overall condition of the property. This was our first and last stay here. The villas need a major investment and significant updates throughout the property. There is also a swimming pool, but based on the condition and cleanliness of the villa, I did not feel comfortable getting into it. Overall, I would not stay here again. While the location across from Rick's Café is convenient, there are many better accommodations in Negril that offer much better value for the price.

  Don’t be fooled. Old and dated, did not look like photos

  Large family. Booked two 2-bedroom villas and one 1-bedroom villa - total 10 people. The previous reviews you see here are from years ago. The most recent reviews, are from the larger villa with the 6 bedrooms. Beware the pictures you see online for the 2 bedroom and 1 bedroom villa are either very old photos and or are from the big 6 bed villa…..not from the smaller villas across the street. This is not the picture of the villas that we stayed in, either inside or out. Kitchen small but functional, no dining table only a counter area. The pool area did not look like this in the area we stayed. We can handle island life and rooms and the rustic feel and have stayed in many villas in Jamaica. This was ridiculous! Absolutely not 4.7 stars for the other villas at best 2 star. The 2 and 1 bedroom villas are awful. The room looked old and in need of repairs/painting. Haphazard repairs, Musty smell so our allergies started up immediately. The bathrooms have windows in them located at butt height with people walking around outside my kids would be seen showering. 1 of our villas (the 2 bedrooms one where my 87 year old mom was staying) had showers outside!!! The pool area was horrendous, you can smell the farm animals poop wafting everywhere. Pool was dirty, cloudy with leaves and the hot tub not functional and also dirty. If you want to lay by the pool this ambience was not it. We gave 1 star location because it is close to a Ricks Cafe, if you want that everyday. The manager, who is new, was awesome and the staff was good. That’s the reason we gave another star. Hopefully, the new manager can get this place up and running. it has potential but right now it is not ready for a vacation spot in Jamaica. Choose somewhere else to stay. Many other nicer villas around the area.

  Beyond Perfection

  It was time for another family girls' trip to Villas Sur Mer, but this time we rented the 6-bedroom villa. In addition to arranging transportation, menu preferences and grocery shopping, Daniela, VSM’s resident manager, took care of everything, and even had fresh flowers in the villa and a birthday party for my daughter, complete with a seaside massage, cake, and decorations. My daughter is a librarian and the cake and decorations reflected that perfectly. The food was amazing, made with fresh, local ingredients by Chef Alisha. Our whole group loved her lobster dinner. It's by far our favorite. Janine kept the house perfect for us. We loved meeting Marlon and he kept us safe. Macke kept the grounds pristine and was always so friendly. Everyone worked hard to make our vacation perfect. The people we met are awesome, and we can't wait to see them again. The villa itself is beautiful and perfectly decorated. There was an en suite in every room, and every room had a sea view. When we weren't exploring Negril, you could find us in the pool area listening to the great sound system. Villas Sur Mer is perfect for any occasion and while we absolutely loved the 6 bedroom villa, we also loved our previous stay across the road. We cant wait to return again.

  Secluded, Yet Convenient Villa

  Maybe if you enjoy an all inclusive high rise experience this is not for you but it was perfect for us! The grounds are beautifully kept and lush with plants and winding paths leading us to the pool and bar where we settled in with our friends to swim, relax and play games in the shady lounge area. All of the staff were lovely and made us feel at home. Daniela arranged a grocery pick up for us so we could have breakfast and snacks at our villa and just across the road good meals were available for dinner. We did venture out to the beach and town but our most enjoyable time was hanging out with Kay the bartender by the pool. It was a very memorable vacation and our friends that had not visited Jamaica before left with a real understanding of the culture and the people.

  Negril… No problem

  We had an amazing vacation… Food was delicious staff were very accommodating. We all felt Safe … security did an excellent job making sure we were safe at all times … well kept property provided drivers for daily activities. Celebrating life Birthdays and private memorial service.
