Great location and beach, food is meh
We stayed here for a few days before moving to a larger (much nicer) resort for a destination wedding. We wanted an AI close to PDC that wouldn't break the bank, and for what we wanted this fit the bill. Several positives about this resort: Nice and small. The pool and pool bar were steps from our room. Great beach! Good coffee available at all the bars. Andrea at the pool bar in the morning is awesome! Good activities staff. For a resort this size to have 15 activities staff is crazy. Now for the negatives: Food is below average. At the price, I wasn't expecting anything amazing, but it was even worse than expected. The snack bar food other than one item or two is almost unedible. You get the cheapest of cheap alcohol. the good stuff is members only. There were very few American or Canadians at the resort, so it was hard to meet people and make friends, which should have been a huge plus for a resort this size. I love mingling with people from Europe, but in our case, the ratio was maybe too slanted. (I did learn my Italian numbers though playing bingo though!)

Best Resort in Playa del Carmen
We were once again absolutely delighted. It was our second vacation at Viva Azteca. Since we were already very impressed with the hotel during our last stay at the end of November last year, we decided to come back. Of course, we were very happy to see many familiar faces again, especially Roberto. Last year, he already offered us a lot of water sports activities, took us sailing on a catamaran, was always friendly, and this year he even taught us how to surf. A huge heartfelt thank-you once again to Roberto, who always has a smile on his face and was one of the main reasons we decided to return to this hotel. He is always friendly, does everything he can to make things possible for the guests, and offered us a wide variety of water sports activities. We were very happy to see him again and hope when we will booking the next vacation in the Viva Azteca, he will be there again.

Not a great resort
If you haven’t experienced a great all-inclusive resort in Mexico before then you might enjoy this. We left disappointed with quality of food- drinks- activities. The service was the poorest I have ever experienced at a resort. Our past experience had staff bringing drinks to us whether we were at a pool or at the beach. They had no such service at this resort. Quality of buffet was horrible. Our family is pretty easy to please in the food department but the quality was poor at best. Ate a lot of pizza…… I would definitely spend a few dollars more and go to a better resort. I would not recommend this to anyone.
