  Lesson Learned! Watch out!

  A learning experience. Tried to give them the benefit of a doubt, but just cannot. My friends and I arrived with the masses off of our flight into a hot and open air lobby. It was pretty, but a long wait with a lack of refreshments or a cold towel, or really any type of hospitality. The language barrier was a struggle throughout the entire week. We only met one other English speaking person on the resort. I'll start with the good points that I enjoyed 1. The water was beautiful! It had a clean beach and was quite lovely! 2. We did enjoy an excursion off of the property that was also very good. 3. On the very last day we discovered that the beer, El Presidente, is actually very good! Now the negatives. 1. The drinks were horrible! We ended up not even drinking after multiple attempts to find something tasty. 2. The bars had long, long lines and were covered with bees! 3. The food was just okay, nothing to brag upon. We did enjoy the pizza and pasta bar probably the most. 4. Our room, deserves a whole chapter. We were supposed to be in a 2 bedroom unit. What we actually were in was an upstairs type of apartment with a bedroom a bathroom and another bed in the "living room" area. We made do. However, on two occasions, the bed in the "living room" area broke. By broke I mean the metal frame broke at the welds! We tried to report this to the front desk and ask for maintenance and they did not understand what I was saying. After quite a while they sent 3 maids to the room to fix the bed. None spoke english of course and we had to engage in charades to explain the dilemma. They couldn't fix the bed of course. Hours later a maintenance man came, non english speaking again. He shook his head and hauled the mattress and frame off. We were given another mattress to lay on the floor and sleep on! That endured for one night and they replaced another bed frame. This frame also broke and we went through the entire circus again! Holy Cow! My friends and I are not expectant and made due, but this truly was not what we expected at all from the resort. 5. Check out was equally hot and not very helpful. Would I go back? To the area, yes! To this resort? Probably not at all.

  Absolutely awful – would not recommend

  This was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had, and our two-week holiday was ruined by the problems we experienced. On arrival, I was given a room that was already occupied. I actually walked into another guest’s room. The member of staff at reception did not seem particularly concerned. I then had to walk all the way back to reception with my two-year-old. I was subsequently given a room on the top floor, which involved stairs and was extremely difficult with a young child and stroller. When we finally reached the room, it was AGAIN occupied by other guests. Thankfully, they were not naked or doing anything intimate. Eventually we were given another room, but it was filthy. The sheets, pillows and towels were dirty, the floor was dirty and the bathroom smelled like a blocked drain. When I showered, dirty water came back up through the plughole. Our sheets were not changed once during the entire two weeks. The food was absolutely diabolical, especially in the main buffet. Dirty plates were common, cutlery was often unavailable or filthy, and you could wait 20+ minutes just for something as simple as pancakes. By the time you had collected the rest of your food, it was cold. Drinks and ice were constantly unavailable and took ages to be restocked. There were flies everywhere, including around the food and on plates, and we also saw ants. Wild cats regularly entered the restaurants while people were eating, with some guests even feeding them from plates and using restaurant cutlery. There were hardly any high chairs available, and the ones we found were disgusting. Bring antibacterial wipes if you are travelling with children. The pool was another major concern. During our two-week stay, it did not appear to be cleaned. There was hair and bird faeces in the water, and pool lights were hanging off with visible wires, which I found extremely worrying from a safety perspective. The service was generally poor and staff were often rude and unhelpful. We felt that English-speaking guests were treated particularly poorly. My family and I even made an effort to speak Spanish, but this did not change the attitude we received. My mum has a wheat and gluten allergy, and there were issues with cross-contamination of cutlery. This was only properly addressed after we complained to our TUI representative. To make matters worse, my brother and my son became seriously ill with sickness and diarrhoea for around a week. We were told it could have been food poisoning/salmonella. We had to cancel a trip because everyone was ill, ruining a significant part of our holiday. I cannot say for certain what caused the illness, but given the hygiene issues we experienced, it was extremely concerning. The Wi-Fi was practically non-existent in the rooms and you had to go to reception to get any connection. The only real positive was our TUI representative, Jean, who was lovely and very helpful. Overall, I would absolutely not return to this hotel. The hygiene, cleanliness, food, service and safety issues were simply unacceptable, particularly for families with young children.

  Amazing vacation in Viva

  Everything was perfect! Thank you for being so kind and caring. The kids enjoyed, we will be back! The room was great as well. Clean and comfortable.
