5 star experience from start to finish
Just back from the Edinburgh Caledonian hotel and really enjoyed staying there, from being met by friendly doormen as we pulled up in our car to a very pleasant receptionist who was very helpful, it’s a beautiful building and spotlessly clean, we were given a fabulous big room which was very comfortable and even though it’s in the middle of everything it was so quiet later on, we had blue badges so could park for free in the side street as long as we liked so long as it’s not a permit or loading area( warden told me ). We came to Edinburgh for our sons birthday so we ate out but had breakfast at the hotel which is very good with plenty of tea/coffee served to your table, all the staff were so nice and friendly, we will definitely stay here again.

A Truly Exceptional Stay for My Twins’ Birthday
We had the most wonderful experience at the Caledonian Hotel Edinburgh during a very special trip for my twins’ birthday. After a long journey from Beijing, we arrived exhausted, but the team made us feel instantly cared for. A heartfelt thank you to Catherine F, who went above and beyond to arrange a beautiful room for the twins’ birthday. The attention to detail made the celebration feel incredibly special. Laura on the front desk was outstanding. She made our check‑in seamless and ensured the twins’ birthday breakfast was memorable. Her warmth and professionalism genuinely lifted our spirits after such a long flight. I also want to give a special mention to June at the front desk, who was so welcoming to my children. Her kindness set the tone for a stay that felt personal, thoughtful, and relaxed. We are already looking forward to returning. Thank you to the whole team for making this birthday trip one we’ll always remember.

Feeling Less Than Five Stars
Not a disappointing stay by any means, but some room for improvement. Staff were fantastic with their guest interactions -- no fault there. Our room was a two queen room -- beds were a great size and comfy. The room was lovely -- we were greeted with a nice little snack set up for the kids. Loved the heated bathroom floor, everything incredibly clean. But some little things missing -- I understand no mini bar, but there was also no water bottles in the room, even to make a tea or coffee? I asked when I requested more towels but it never came, and I ended up just ordering some with room service. Which, by the way, ordering room service on the app, I could not figure out a way to order bottled water. Had to call. Food -- both breakfast and room service -- were faultless. We had stayed about seven years ago on our last trip to Edinburgh and really loved the breakfast and found this had not changed in quality or options. Definitely a high point of the stay. Pool and spa was a little sad -- steam room wasn't working, and honestly, if you're going to have specific hours for kids, can you tell the canoodling couples to shove off during that limited time? Admittedly, I have high expectations, but a single water fountain (in five star hotel, should be bottles or a nice flavored spa water, maybe even a bit of snacks), no extra towels in the changing rooms/showers ... no vanity kits or amenities. I encountered quite a few people in the changing rooms who were there with a day pass for the pool. As a paying hotel guest, if you can't have amenities for the guests using the spa because of your day pass guests, you really shouldn't have day pass guests. Biggest gripe was the lifts. We got stuck in the spa lift and the kids absolutely panicked. Why do you not have stairs back up to the hotel? We ended up being escorted through the staff lifts to get back to our room by a lovely man from the spa -- a crisis handled very quickly and very well. But we didn't get in a single lift for the rest of our stay because even the main lifts were slow and concerning. We appreciated the ease of check out, and the helpful staff at the front of house. Understanding the hotel has changed labels and has been/is being refurbished, we would stay again ... but if the lifts aren't sorted next time and the place isn't a bit more amenity rich, I would look elsewhere.

Beautiful hotel
We had a lovely stay at the Caledonian! We stayed here to celebrate my boyfriend’s 25th birthday and we had the best time! We had a beautiful room with a gorgeous view of the castle, the room was spotlessly clean and very quiet. We had dinner in the restaurant, and the staff were so attentive- they even gave us a complimentary drink and dessert to celebrate! The food was delicious, could not have been any better- the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, both for intimate dinners and larger parties. From reception to food and beverage, the team were fantastic and really made a fuss over us and made us feel so special. Thank you everyone for helping us celebrate such special day❤️
