Anniversary Trip
We were welcomed with a chilled bottle of wine and decor to celebrate our anniversary. Lovely room with a very private balcony. Easy walk to Cane Bay. Next time we would book a suite so we’d have access to a larger fridge. A must is stopping at the grocery store before checking in.

Gorgeous hotel with expansive views and relaxed vibe
I think the most important takeaway from our experience at the Waves Cane Bay is that our room, a king room with kitchenette, looked EXACTLY like the provided photos, offering chic, relaxed, upscale Caribbean decor, and a STUNNING corner unit view of the ocean from its wraparound porch. The Waves is indeed set out right over the ocean, and mornings and evenings can be spent luxuriating with a drink or take home meal (even home prepped meal if you get a kitchette unit) on it's expansive patio, which made our trip a divine way to spend a couple's weekend. A few other notes: -Shoutout to the housekeeping staff, who are top notch. Our room was spotlessly clean when we arrived, and left so after cleaning each day. -The Waves is managed by the same helpful and responsive team that manages its sister hotel in town, the King Christian, which also appears to be well run, clean, upscale and nicely maintained. Those things all show at the Waves as well. -The Waves is on the remote side of the island. Expect each ride into Christianstead (rideshare available through VI Hail app) to take 20+ mins and add cost to your trip. Renting a car is useful, though we got on fine without one. -Lots of food options an easy walk down beach from the hotel, but they all vary in hours and open days. Check food truck and restaurant schedules to be sure you know which venue will offer food which days during your stay. Food truck in particular offers excellent NYC style egg sandwiches and iced coffee drinks, though pricey. Beach bar just down ftim hotel is a hopping place for locals, but food is excellent if you can time it right to find seating. -AMA is the Waves in house restaurant. Food is good, service VERY slow. Beautiful place for dinner right at oceanside if you aren't in a hurry. Look for the critters in the tide pool! -Tide pool feature is gorgeous for looking into and exploring, but it is home to eels and other creatures that certainly made us less inclined to swim in it. Gorgeous sunset views from patios below hotel. We took a sunset panorama shot the we later printed large scale and hung over our bed, to bring our perfect island stay home with us! Overall a perfect stay. Room was beautiful, food good, vibe was relaxed. Waves is perfect for a true "getaway" trip that takes you out of the hustle and bustle.

Looks are deceiving. Stay elsewhere.
So I’ll start with the Pros. The room is an amazing size with a well appointed kitchen that was greatly appreciated. The balcony is huge and it’s nice sitting out there listening to the water crash below. It is walking distance of a nice beach, a restaurant (Landsing- whose food absolutely sucks, it’s very touristy but it’s close) and some bars. There is a restaurant attached that we didn’t get to try because it was booked but with such a limited menu and high prices we were fine with missing out. Now the cons, the bathroom is very small with no fan, so no moving air so it’s hot and muggy. The room looks updated and trendy when in actuality it’s just an old building that has been repainted and horribly patched. I had bug bites everyday and even new bug bites days after leaving the hotel. I kept checking for bed bugs because the bites only came on my legs in the morning after waking up. The WiFi was nonexistent for a day and a half which meant no tv as well. It rained for the first two days as well and not only was it raining outside it also rained in the room. Water leaked in the kitchen, behind the Ac and around the window. We notified Tom and he came to check but acted like this was a first occurrence but you can clearly see where they have repainted over previous water damage.( So he’s a liar) He just brought a bunch of towels to soak up the abundance of water on the floor and did no repair to anything. Not only that, the AC also stopped working in our room. Tom tried to reset it but stated it needed to be replaced. Why would yall put guests in a room with a broken AC. (We were in room 12) Thank goodness there was a ceiling fan because otherwise we would have been completely miserable. The day we were leaving there was a new AC in a box outside our door so I’m guessing it was soon replaced. We requested a late checkout and Tom said he would talk with Charlotte. He came back and tried to deny a later checkout until I reminded him about the broken AC, no WiFi, and wet room from the rain and then the late checkout was honored. Housekeeping never once cleaned our room and we were there for 4 days. We asked Charlotte about it and she asked did we have the DND magnet on the door, we explained we don’t even have a magnet and she stated they would be by, which never happened the whole entire time. Overall this place sucks. I would never recommend anyone stay here. Looks are very deceiving. It is not as nice as it appears. And the room has an old, muggy smell to it. Please don’t waste your time. Find another hotel.

Loved this hotel!
Our room at this hotel was beautiful! The balcony overlooked the ocean with the sound of crashing waves adding to the ambiance, and an amazing sunset view. Communication prior to our stay was excellent. Special touches such as a bottle of wine and cookies upon our arrival was an added touch of luxury. Would absolutely stay here again!
