Disappointing service, artificial wait times, Food needs improvement
Pool was fantastic along with poolside restautant, Vida. overall great service and attention. However great service was not consistent. The service at the restaurants was significantly slower than usual at Caracola. Took over 10 minutes to be greeted and order taken. We had to get host attention and she politely took our order. Same occurrence at Mitre market with slower than usual service. In addition, we were told there was an hour-long wait time for dining at Manglar, yet we could clearly see multiple open, available tables that remained empty. Being denied seating while the venue was visibly under-capacity felt completely artificial and poorly managed. The host only seated our party when challenged. We also experienced difficulty on one occasion getting a resort trolley. One completely passed us; we hailed another one and driver indicated he was taking people to check in although he had room for two passengers, then we simultaneously hailed another with only two passengers on it, and the drivers then had a conversation about who would give us a ride to the Mitre Market. This was an uncomfortable experience that lacked professionalism and courtesy.

Don't hesitate to book!
We just returned to Alberta from The Westin Resort. I gave it a rating of 4.8/5 with just a couple of minor things to mention. 1)The pool is much larger in person than how it appears in photos. It's surrounded by lush tropical greenery. The only issue is the condition of steps going into the pool (they actually hurt, feel very rough). This may sound strange but the pool water..it's lake-green and not the teal blue you would expect at a resort such as this. Having said that we did spend most of our time there of course! Make sure you have flip flops as the heat on tile surrounding pool is NOT fit for walking on (too hot). Pack your own floaties or pool noodles as I didn't see anything like that to purchase. (There are no water slides or splash pads for kids. but shallow areas in pool area for them to play in). Pack buckets or plastic boats to keep them amused. Morning pool yoga is kind of fun as well as salsa dance lessons in water! Catch those by the bar/pool table area of pool. 2)The food. You won't starve but there didn't seem to be a lot of choice. It's very repetitive. Don't order the steak.. coming from Alberta it's not even close. The italian place was nice although limited menu I thought. The breakfast at Mitra Market is very good with 5 stations I believe. The fruit and baking very good. Lots of choices froms eggs, waffles, pancakes etc etc. Pour your own mimosas as well. The lunch was just so-so nothing special. The dinners there were ok, good pizza-pasta-chicken with sides. A few choices of salads which were good. Lots of desserts to taste-test as well. If you do go there for din, there is a bar in the center of the market (outside) and right beside that a stage where there is usually some kind of entertainment around 8pm nightly. There are a few other places for you to check out as well when it comes to dinner such as asian if you like that or seafood, or burger bar by pool. 3)Resort overall- One of the cleanest I have ever seen. It's positively spotless. The bungalows are quite unique with your own patio or upper balcony style sitting area. Beds very comfy as well. Dont pack shampoo/cond/body wash it's all supplied for you. The units are situated on winding cobblestone roads. There are shuttles that run continually around the property. So stand at side of the road, give them a wave and they will stop and take you where you want to go. It feels like you are surrounded by jungle... so green it's gorgeous. And lets not forget the ocean. Beautiful, same with beach. Don't miss the sunset! I won't tell you about the wildlife though that's gonna be a surprise! Oh one more thing, this resort feels extremely safe. There are staff always around, either gardening, cleaning, room service. I didn't at anytime feel nervous walking around. 4)Shout outs! First of all to Noella at front desk. We had arrived on the red-eye flight and our room wasn't ready til afternoon. (We did realize this at booking). However the humidity hit us right away and with no sleep we were feeling not so great, so it was tough to wait hours for our room. Noella brought us scented (lavender?) cool towels for our faces and worked some of her magic to get us to our room much sooner. I have NEVER met a kinder more caring person than her. So thankyou so much for really going over and above! Next is NELSON one of the resort shuttle drivers! He always met us at the stops with a big smile and keeping us laughing. What a great guy! I must say that most of the shuttle drivers were very personable as well as the other staff at resort. They are fun-loving, caring people who really want to make sure your stay is memorable! Next is Alex (guitar player at the pool). Try to catch his show it's very good! And the funniest magician (Alejandro) whose show is something both you and the kids will enjoy! *TIPS* Pack your own snacks-chips or whatever as they are EXTREMELY high priced in the shops there. (Airport there crazy expensive as well especially when you convert to canadian $$$, eat BEFORE going when you fly out).. Filtered ice cold water machines in each room so just bring containers and fill that way. Bottled is pricey. And do the math on costa rican money before you leave. Some items are priced in CR others in US dollars. I'd pay cash for anything extra and not use credit card anywhere else other than charges to room just to be safe. We had an incident in Tamarindo that we are still trying to figure out. PAY WITH CASH!! (It's a great shopping area with shuttles leaving resort every 2 hours). If you are a Costco Canada traveller do your homework on that $100 per stay thing. It's NOT per person and it's NOT per day. You really don't know what it's for. Better to just not bother and don't use it at all. All in all a fantastic vacation with the friendliest people you will ever meet! Thanks to all of you for an unforgettable time! :)

AMAZING RESORT IN GUANACASTE!
Westin Reserva Conchal was recommended to us by our travel advisor and we are so happy with this choice! The resort is beautiful, clean and has plenty of activities for the guests. Food is delicious and customer service at the resort is impeccable! We traveled to Costa Rica during my husband's 40th birthday and to celebrate the milestone, we asked the front desk to help us surprise my husband by putting balloons and a cake in our villa! Berenice Blanco, who welcomed us to the resort during check-in, made this all possible by putting together the surprise, herself! Westin has a very unique set-up where rooms are in individual villas so there's plenty of space for the family. The rooms are also very clean and regularly refilled with drinks and snacks. The ambiance is very relaxing being surrounded by trees, monkeys and iguanas just randomly strolling in the resort. This is an all-inclusive resort and we're very satisfied with the quality of food! Food is fresh and tasty, definitely worth gaining the extra LBS for! Overall, I would highly recommend this resort to anyone visiting the Guanacaste region!

Highly Recommend – Exceptional Food Allergy Safety & Gorgeous Resort
We had a fantastic stay at The Westin Reserva Conchal and highly recommend it, especially for families managing severe food allergies. We traveled with our child who has multiple food allergies (peanut, hazelnut, sesame, and shellfish). While we went in knowing that certain specialty restaurants would be off-limits due to cross-contamination risks, the resort staff exceeded our expectations at every turn. The dining managers across all venues were exceptionally proactive, attentive, and genuinely invested in keeping our daughter safe. At the buffet, the kitchen went above and beyond by preparing her meals separately in the back to prevent cross-contamination. Room service was equally accommodating and seamless. Our favorite dining experience was at the Italian restaurant, where the team handled our restrictions with absolute precision. Tip for allergy parents: We brought printed food allergy cards translated into Spanish, which made communicating our needs completely effortless for the staff. Beyond the outstanding service, the resort itself is wonderful. The pool area is relaxed and beautiful, and the adjacent beach offers fantastic swimming. We felt completely safe and well cared for throughout our trip and would highly recommend the Westin Reserva Conchal to any food allergy family!

What happened to the pool!?
I just want to start by saying the resort/food/staff or a solid 5 stars! I would’ve given even less because of the pool situation. We were here 4.5 years ago and loved it (this is our 4th time in CR and 2nd time and the Westin). We came with our parents who don’t travel much and couldn’t say enough good things especially how awesome the pool was. We got here and the pool is disgusting (will post photos). I’m surprised no one has made this comment yet in the reviews. We came here agsin for the pool ($9400 Canadian for our fam of 4). The pool is a completely different colour then when we were here before (manager stated that no Reno has been done to the pool in the time we were here last to make it look a different colour). It’s murky, dark, almost looks like sludge. The manager did say it’s ok to swim in but to us it was not inviting at all. Hotel said it was algae. I honestly wouldn’t come back because of this one thing. We are Canadian, we want sun, nice beach (which it is) and a wicked pool, Not so much this time. The staff, room, food, grounds, drinks everything is all amazing though. A/c in rooms was perfect as I read some bad reviews about that. We got some sun and lotsa clouds but was very hot, little bit of rain but not much. Our experience for our family (there was 9 of us altogether, age 2-70) was awesome other than the pool, a lot of complaints from us and people that we heard talking in the pool as well. To us, the pool maintenance should be top priority. Clean, blue, warm, clear (pool temp was perfect). I’m sure a lot of ppl would agree. No one wants, cloudy, green looking sludge pond looking pool!! I really hope more people wrote a review about this do they fix it asap!! I will post photo of the same spot in pool but opposite side of stairs from 4 years ago compared to what we experienced at our stay this time around for reference.again, love everything else 5/5 but pool 1/5.
