Love The Westin @ Grand Cayman
I was recently there with my daughter and mom and had an incredible time. Met some new friends while staying at the hotel and we're better from the experiences. Arun, from housekeeping, was kind, attentive and so eager to be helpful in any way. I frequently saw his smiling face and he always asked if we needed anything and always assisted with doors, walking me to an elevator in the evening, helping with luggage, provided more water, tea, etc, and even went beyond when others were dropping the ball. It was intentional for him to remember we had three guests and extra towels, bedding or water bottles were provided for all of us. This detail matters and it's the small things that get noticed. Rohelio is also a gem. He's a beach ambassador and he was always helpful. friendly, respectful and had a smile on his face despite the heat. He helped us get chairs on the beach with an umbrella and even helped us get a third one for my daughter. He brought me and my mom water/fresh towels, answered my questions about activities/schedules and told me fun things to do. Grand Cayman is truly a one-of-a-kind gem with its mystical aura. I'll be back to visit soon.

Stressful “Vacation” -Sub standard Westin experience
Overpriced and Worn Out I am writing this because I want to save some family who has saved their hard earned money to come to paradise. Do not stay at this hotel. CONS: The welcome is underwhelming. Non smiling staff behind the podium who don’t offer anything to drink -I know I’ve become spoiled by 5 star hotels but how about a glass of water for tired hot travelers while we wait interminably for our sub standard rooms? Nope! but the bar is open. $51 for two drinks. While waiting in the lobby I noticed the tables had missing pieces out of the tops and some of the upholstery was worn through. It costs nothing to take care of these and if this is the Westins level of care for your first impression -it can only go down from here. Our room was worn and tired looking but at least somewhat clean. Except for the louvered bathroom door that had 15 years of dust. We booked a beachfront room which was a total mistake. It was like the movie Summer Rental. People coming and going all day on the path right in front of our room so we had to close the draperies all day. So much for the view. Between hotel guests and workers it was a genuine parade. Also service carts (loud!) clunking up and down the path room starting at 6:30 am and ending in the evening. How do I know the carts started at 6:30 am? Because I was up every morning to get a beach chair. You have to. Or you’re sitting 5 rows back. Yes 5 ROWS OF BEACH CHAIRS. Want to get away from it all and have peace and quiet while you try to read? Forget it. You’re stacked in there like sardines. I could literally reach over and touch the stranger next to me. Which is uncomfortable-especially when they are loud talkers and decide to play music. Those chairs we had to fight for? Well they are filthy and uncomfortable. They are covered in black mold and the beach tables were chipped and gross as well. Dirty from spilled drinks and food. They don’t clean the beach every day. I never saw them clean near the chairs once. There was a man who raked the tree debris and he seemed dedicated. So you’re stepping around trash that other guests have left -including bags of half eaten food- with flies buzzing and birds trying to get into. I’m not sure if some of these hotel guests haven’t been out of their homes before but the person who left used Qtips (gag) on the beach table and bags of dirty diapers is a special kind of gross. What’s the solution to the chair situation? You can rent a pod! Or a cabana! You are already paying 90 bucks a day in resort fees (plus tax and service charge) and now you have to pay an additional 125 -175 a day to get a decent chair set up. But you better reserve that in advance BECAUSE THE WESTIN ALLOWS ANYONE TO COME TO THE BEACH AND RENT THOSE!! What? So you’re asking yourself why not stay at the spacious condos next door at a fraction of the price and then wander over with 18 of your family members and rent pods/cabanas and enjoy the Westin pool and beach? Sure! It how about just park your car, walk through the lobby and plop down on the chairs? Sure! Ok it gets better. Really worse but by the time I learned this next nugget of info I was ready to end our trip early. There are rooms across the street the Sunshine Suites at a third of the Westin price and the guests get full access to any amenities at the Westin! But that’s unfair you say…and you would be right. They aren’t paying 700-900 bucks a night (our room bill-without any other charges was 4100 for 5 nights) nor are they paying a resort fee. But they sure are getting alllll the benefits. And of course when the cruise ships port we also had those people as well. The cherry on top was the third day when they removed 50 % of the beach chairs and pushed the other ones closer together. Why? Because according to the staff they were entering shoulder season and they didn’t want to have to walk an extra 50 steps to accommodate any guests ordering drinks etc. on the left side. So now we’re even more smushed together and everyone is on one part of the beach, swimming in one area and it’s crowded and stressful. Every morning I would say “good morning, may we have two towels please?” And every morning I was given two towels without a smile or even a word back. It was the most insane lack of hospitality service I have ever encountered. PROS: There was a friendly kind server at the pool restaurant and we enjoyed our lunch. We ate every other meal at other restaurants. The water is gin clear and the beach itself is beautiful. But it’s so crowded that it’s really hard to enjoy. The location is very central to everything. My traveling friends there are soooo many better places you can stay than here. It would be one thing if this place was inexpensive but it’s not. This was our third time on Grand Cayman (we love the Kimpton Seafire but it was full) and we might come back and obviously we will stay somewhere else. One thing I do want to mention: Cayman in general is expensive. Between the exchange rate and the added 18% service charge -you need to add around 35-40 percent to everything you eat, drink and do. So that means lunches for two are 100 bucks and dinner is easily over 200. I can’t imagine what a family of four is shelling out. There’s a whole Caribbean out there-I’ve been to most islands and will probably skip Cayman from here out.

I like the Westin.
First time I travelled without my Family. I chose this place for what may seem like a stupid reason, however they have the best smelling shower gel and the place smells resortish. lol. Upon arrival, there was a doctor's convention being held there and the place was packed. Met some nice people. This time the hotel's hallway carpets, which have an ocean theme was clearly dirty. It looked sad actually, otherwise, I still like this hotel, its located between the Governors Mansion and the Ritz. I will return in 2026
