    St. Kitts

Ocean Terrace Inn - European Plan

Vacation in St. Kitts, the new kid on the block.

What makes this lush and natural island a true gem of a vacation destination is its recent history. St. Kitts’ economic mainstay was rooted in the sugar industry until early 2005. Which is why a St. Kitts vacation comes with unspoiled landscapes and uncrowded beaches.

Why Book a St. Kitts Vacation Package

  • All Aboard the Sugar Train

A favorite from St. Kitts’ growing roster of attractions is the St. Kitts Scenic Railway, better known as the “Sugar Train.” The railway uses the same tracks that were originally built in 1912 to carry sugar cane from the various plantations dotting the island to the Sugar Factory in Basseterre. Today, the train whisks passengers on an unrivaled scenic tour of the island aboard deluxe double-decker cars. The tour circles the island’s coastline and offers a unique perspective of the island’s culture, people, views, and history. A dedicated choir in traditional dress serenades train passengers with folkloric tunes and sugar cakes. Grab yourself a beverage and enjoy the ride.

  • A Perspective Like None Other

Standing tall at 3,792 feet, Mount Liamuiga is the highest peak on St. Kitts. Adventurers seeking a challenging hike through the lush, verdant rainforest will be pleasantly surprised at the wonders existing high on the slopes. Hikers will find numerous species of wildflowers and plants as well as lively streams and waterfalls with natural pools. You might also spot one of approximately 200 species of birds or playful green vervet monkeys watching curiously from the trees. These critters outnumber people on the island.

  • Where History Comes to Life

St. Kitts’ capital, Basseterre, is perfect for walking tours and photo opportunities. This bustling city is known for having some of the finest examples of Caribbean architecture in the West Indies as well as beautiful parks, monuments, and public areas. At the center of town is The Circus/Berkley Memorial, a well-known landmark modeled after the British Piccadilly Circus in London and surrounded by restaurants, local shops, and businesses. Nearby, Independence Square is a monument in honor of the island’s independence from Great Britain and features lavish gardens. Another popular site is St. George’s Anglican Church, originally built in 1670 by the French with tombstones dating back to the early 1700s.

  • Class It Up

Not far from Basseterre lies the restored Fairview Great House & Botanical Gardens. Centuries ago, it was one of the island’s premier plantation homes. Today, it boasts authentic period pieces that bring the colonial era to life. Visitors can explore its grand dining room, balconied master bedrooms, and meticulously groomed lawns and gardens. The property also features the elegant open-air Nirvana Restaurant, which serves elegant Caribbean cuisine and is perfect to get all dressed up.

  • Weave Something Wonderful

Caribelle Batik is a must-see on the St. Kitts agenda. This local artisan’s factory produces intricate hand-made batik fabrics from locally-grown Sea Island cotton, using the same methods that were applied 2,000 years ago. Visit the factory to watch the artisans work and learn how batik is created, then shop for souvenirs in the factory store or stroll the property gardens.

  • In-Destination Support

Funjet’s end-to-end service means we also support you in destination. Our network includes a relationship with DePalm Tours, a company with over 25 years of experience and the largest of its kind on the island. They are easily recognized by their yellow shirts—there to greet you when you land, provide you with door to door transportation to your hotel, help you find activities beyond the resort, and to just be there for you and answer any questions you may have. Find them in the lobby of your hotel, by calling 297-522-4480 or emailing maryhirschfeld@depalmtours.com.
